No statement. No COBRA meeting. Barely a headline.
After a shocking attack on Muslims in Edinburgh, @meralhece told the Lords that British Muslims are increasingly fearful for their safety, and the government has offered platitudes instead of leadership. 🧵
A central reason Muslims have never yet flourished on a large scale in the West is our almost wholly negative attitude towards shari'a or sacred law. Negative shari'a should pivot on clear red lines, not a paranoia about whether or not everyday life is "halal."
The real purpose of sacred law is in any case positive; it provides principles for maximized human flourishing in accordance with the lofty vision of human nature that has been revealed to us, not a raft of complexes and prohibitions.
The true Muslim's natural assumption when encountering a new situation is not only that it is "halal", but that its halal status need not even be investigated. God created all that is in the earth for you; everything on this earth was created for our benefit, in order to help us in actualising the holistic flourishing demanded by our nature; it was not created so that we could be suspicious, uneasy, and paranoid about every unfamiliar thing that we encounter.
Instead, in everything you do be faithful and loyal to the haqa'iq and the sha'a'ir, the spiritual realities and the outward symbols of the din. It is that deep spiritual orientation and the pursuit of the corresponding truth, beauty, and goodness in all things which will keep you on the Straight Path, the path of closeness to Allah, not an unhealthy and morally lazy dependence on a "mufti" who has lost all touch with reality.
He created all that is in the earth for you is indeed one of the proof texts for the fiqh maxim "the default assumption is permissibility." We should combine it with the hadith, "Seek the moral judgement of your heart," and recognise that a pedantic and partisan fiqh madhhab calculus is rarely the right way to achieve the maqasid of the din in this time.
From the

to the

the purposes of sacred law are configured to facilitate the cultivation of truth, beauty, and goodness in the life of each individual believer. Social and cultural non-participation, the self-incarceration of authentically Islamic creative energies, and our defaulting to "halal" medicine and engineering, and thus becoming grey, lifeless non-presences in Western societies that we should be transforming with light, is the price our communities pay for our lazy (and unislamic) legalism.
Absolutely shameful.
The Labour Government has no interest in tackling inequality, stopping poverty in this country or stopping a genocide that they're complicit in.
Every interest in trying to silence dissent. We will not be silent.
Netanyahu is the PM of an apartheid state that has occupied a defenseless people's lands for 60+ yrs in violation of UN resolutions.
He has the blood of Palestinians on his hands and can't cover up crimes by attacking Turkey.

Professor Norman Finkelstein:
“Israel is now a madman.”
“It didn’t get its way with Iran, and so it is totally destroying Lebanon now.”
“It is in a state of catatonic lunacy.”
“I’ve said this for years. Now it’s the consensus.”
“Israel is a lunatic state. A lunatic society.”
Everyone should take 2 mins to watch this.
A father, helped by neighbours, digging for the body of his daughter.
Their home destroyed by Israel.
This is proper reporting and the reason Israel allows nobody into Gaza and targets journalists every day.
23 years ago today in Gaza, British photographer Tom Hurndall was shot in the head by an Israeli sniper while trying to protect Palestinian children.
Humanity will never forget him
Apple has removed Lebanese village names in Southern Lebanon.
As Israel invades, they are already setting the state to justify occupation.
I’ve never seen something like this.
⚠️ The Reality Behind the Reopening of Masjid al-Aqsa
The Israeli occupation authorities have announced that the gates of Masjid al-Aqsa and the surrounding sacred sites will be opened tomorrow morning to “worshippers and visitors,” after 40 days of closure. The Islamic Waqf has confirmed the Masjid will be open from Fajr, without restriction on numbers.
At the same time, so-called “Israeli Temple groups” have already begun calling their supporters to take part in incursions into Masjid al-Aqsa, alongside announcing extended incursion hours.
This announcement needs to be understood clearly:
- The Masjid is being opened to both Muslims and settlers alike. It was not opened this evening, despite the ceasefire announcement so that Muslims do not experience an exclusive return to Masjid al-Aqsa.
- The timing coincides with the final day of the Hebrew Passover, which will be used to stage scenes presented as “victory” and to escalate violations. Heavy restrictions on worshippers are expected.
- Incursion hours have now been extended to:
6:30am – 11:30am
1:30pm – 3:00pm
This marks their longest duration yet, increasing from three hours in 2008 to six and a half hours today in 2026.
- This is part of a long-term trajectory. Settler incursions into Masjid al-Aqsa began in 2003, with fixed timings introduced in 2008. Since then, these hours have steadily expanded. The stated aim is clear: to enforce a “time division” where access to Masjid al-Aqsa is split equally between Muslim worshippers and settler incursions.
- The threat of sacrificial offerings has not gone away. In fact, tomorrow carries an even greater risk, with likely renewed attempts to bring offerings into the Masjid or as close to it as possible.
- A new reality is being reinforced. Even before Ramadan, incursions would begin at 7:00am. During Ramadan, this was pushed earlier to 6:30am. Indications now suggest this earlier timing will now be fixed and continued.
- The Israeli “Home Front Command” has declared that activities will resume from 6:00am, reinforcing a shift where authority over opening and closing Masjid al-Aqsa is being removed from the Islamic Waqf, despite it being the sole legitimate authority responsible for Masjid al-Aqsa.
- There will likely be intensified filming and documentation of the incursions, used as propaganda to project “control” and to normalise a dominant settler presence within Masjid al-Aqsa.
So this is an opening designed to expand incursions, and impose a new reality on Masjid al-Aqsa.
This is a new phase of escalation and violation.
$200 BILLION for a war of choice that Americans don't want and that isn't making us safer. This should be an absolute nonstarter.
The best way to end this war, protect our troops, save civilian lives, & rein in a lawless Administration is to cut off funding. I’m a hell no.

Donald Trump says he’s hoping China will help us clear the Strait of Hormuz. Are you kidding me?
Donald Trump created a mess in the Middle East, and he clearly has no plan for how to end it.
This morning, I co-chaired a breakfast for the Forum Friends of AfCFTA with the World Economic Forum. I highlighted Sierra Leone’s achievement as the first country on the continent to complete its AfCFTA Readiness Assessment and Schedule of Commitments.
Sierra Leone is open for business, with many opportunities ahead.
Sanctions helped end apartheid in South Africa - and they can help end Israel’s brutal occupation now.
I've launched a Westminster Working Group on Sanctions on Israel in Parliament with my colleague @Imran_HussainMP.
At our packed session this week, we looked at how we can ramp up pressure for trade sanctions on Israel - including banning goods and services from the illegal settlements and ending the UK-Israel trade deal, which gives preferential treatment to a state committing genocide, war crimes and grave violations of international law.
They call it peace, but for the Palestinians, it risks to be Apartheid at its worst.
All eyes must remain on Palestine. People of the world, do not look away now. As the legacy of Nelson Mandela reminds us, no one is free until everyone is free.
🚨🇮🇱 I CAN‘T STAND THIS PROPAGANDA ANYMORE.
Yes, I’m glad that Israeli hostages have been freed. And just as glad that Palestinian prisoners have been released. But a few things need to be made clear:
FIRST: It’s absurd that Israelis are called “hostages” while Palestinians are labeled “prisoners.” That’s propaganda. It’s the same thing: human beings who’ve had their freedom taken away, on both sides.
SECOND: The released Israeli hostages appear well-fed, smiling, not a single kilo lost. Clearly treated well under the circumstances. In contrast, the Palestinian prisoners look like they’ve just walked out of a death camp: emaciated, scarred, aged by years of abuse. Tortured. And no one talks about it.
THIRD: Everywhere I read: “Hamas killed all the women, only men were released.” That’s simply a lie. A malicious one. The women who were still alive had already been released in earlier exchange deals. But facts don’t matter when it’s time to push the next hate-driven narrative for $7000.
FOURTH: Everyone talks about a handful of Israeli hostages, but no one mentions the tens of thousands of Palestinian hostages abducted by Israel. Many of them children. Imprisoned without charges, without trial.
FIFTH: And no one talks about the tens of thousands of civilians killed in Israel’s genocide.
SIXTH: While the ‘ceasefire’ (it’s just a matter of time until Israel breaks it again) is being celebrated, radical Israeli settlers are still violently stealing land in the West Bank; with full impunity. They break international law daily, and no one seems to care.
SEVENTH: Politicians across the world are shamelessly cucking for Israel, offering blind support while refusing to even mention the crimes committed in Gaza, the ongoing apartheid in the West Bank, or the endless aggression toward neighboring countries.
EIGHTH: The same governments and media that claim to stand for human rights, international law, and “never again” are now either silent or fully complicit: funding, arming, and excusing an apartheid regime in real time. When Palestinian lives are dehumanized, erased, and bombed into dust, suddenly all those values vanish
So no, I will not take part in this propaganda. I will not whitewash Israel’s crimes.
And yes, I still stand by my words: A STATE LIKE ISRAEL SHOULD NOT EXIST.
