I’ve always believed that Britain is the most successful multiracial democracy on earth - this takes it to a new level.
So proud of my friend @RishiSunak on becoming the first British Asian UK Prime Minister.
A historic moment.
Brilliant to drop into tonight’s Diwali reception in No10.
I will do everything I can in this job to build a Britain where our children and our grandchildren can light their Diyas and look to the future with hope.
Happy #Diwali everyone!
As your Prime Minister, I am confident that together we can ride out the storm, rebuild our economy and become the modern, brilliant Britain that I know we can be.
I will take action every day to make that happen 🇬🇧

Gun salutes have taken place in all four nations of the United Kingdom and on board Royal Navy ships at sea, to pay respects to The Queen after 70 years of service to the country.
The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.
I’d like to wish a joyous and blessed Eid al-Fitr to Muslims here in the UK and around the world gathering with friends, families and neighbours to mark the end of Ramadan.
Eid Mubarak!
