Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s Petition hits 1.5 million!

She was abducted in 2003 with her three children, leading to years of detention and torture.

She was falsely accused of attempting to shoot a U.S. military personnel whilst being held in a dungeon.

In 2010, she was sentenced to 86 years in a U.S. prison, sparking global outrage over her torture and the disappearance of her children, with one still unaccounted for and thought to be dead.

The petition in her support has become a global phenomenon and has garnered over 1.6 million signatures, making it one of the most signed in Asia!

Advocacy continues, with hopes for clemency from the Biden administration regarding her today!

Today marks 23 years since the opening of Guantanamo Bay, a symbol of US abuses during the War on Terror.

Opened in 2002, it held nearly 800 prisoners. 9 prisoners died in Guantanamo, 765 were released, and now only 15 remain.

Over the last two months, 15 prisoners were released —many of them ageing and battling illnesses caused by years of torture.

Whilst this is welcome, we will not be complacent and will not stop until we finally close Guantanamo.
