Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met today with the President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, at the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the leaders signed a Joint Declaration on strengthening the cooperation between the two states, and delivered statements.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to President of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi: "We are proud, and I am proud that my government is the first government on the planet to recognize Somaliland. We are united by the same belief that freedom, democracy and opportunity are stronger than extremism, terrorism and chaos."

I was pleased to meet with President @Abdirahmanirro of Somaliland here at Davos. I welcome the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two nations and look forward to deepening our bilateral cooperation for the benefit of both our peoples.
Here is a comment from Hargeisa that stopped me in my tracks this morning.
"I assure you Israel's embassy in Hargeisa will be the safest place in the city. It will not need government protection. It will have the Somaliland peoples' full protection. If the people are on your side, who can be against you?
Resident of Hargeisa.
“Nobody will determine for Israel who we recognize and who we maintain diplomatic relations with”.
Following mutual recognition and the December 26 agreement establishing full diplomatic relations, @gidonsaar met with @Abdirahmanirro in Hargeisa to advance embassy openings and a strategic partnership between two democratic states.
It's a great privilege to conduct the first official diplomatic visit to Somaliland, at the invitation of President @Abdirahmanirro.
The visit is also a message: We are determined to vigorously advance relations between Israel and Somaliland.
Today, we held substantive discussions with the President and senior members of his government on the full range of our relations.
The mutual recognition and establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries are not directed against anyone. Our shared objective is to promote the mutual benefit of both nations and countries.
In Hargeisa, I made it clear:
Only Israel will decide whom it recognizes and with whom it maintains diplomatic relations.
The President of Somaliland informed me that he has accepted @IsraeliPM Netanyahu’s invitation and will pay an official visit to Israel.
Somaliland to receive recognition by Kenya,
Morocco, Ethiopia, UAE and India today.
A coordinated announcement is expected later today as reports also come in of several diplomatic delegations arriving in Hargeisa.
Somaliland was a sovereign state in 1960 before it voluntarily united with Somalia.
That union collapsed. Somaliland reclaimed its independence in 1991—and has governed itself for 34 years.
This is exactly what Algeria's foreign minister said at the UN General Assembly in September:
"Establishing a state is not a choice, but a necessity. It is not a favor, but a right.”
Only when it refers to the Palestinians does the UN support and applaud, and when it comes to Somaliland, they condemn and oppose.
For anyone who forgot, this is what the African Union itself determined regarding Somaliland:
“The fact that the union between Somaliland and Somalia was never ratified and also malfunctioned when it went into action from 1960 to 1990, makes Somaliland's search for recognition historically unique and self-justified in African political history.”
Opinion: "Somaliland did not inherit legitimacy—it earned it." Israel’s historic recognition marks a shift in the Horn of Africa. For nations like Ethiopia and Kenya, the benefits of a stable, democratic Somaliland are too great to ignore.

Senator Cruz urges President Donald Trump to acknowledge Somaliland as an independent nation, highlighting Israel's recent acknowledgment and emphasizing its importance as a strategic action to counteract China's influence in the Horn of Africa while supporting an ally in the fight against terrorism.
Opinion: In a region of chaos, Somaliland has built a functioning democracy, but it doesn't get the international recognition it deserves.

The State of Somaliland gained independence in 1960—and in just five days, 35 countries extended full diplomatic recognition, including heavyweights like the 🇺🇸 USA, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom, 🇮🇱 Israel, 🇨🇳 China, 🇪🇹 Ethiopia, 🇫🇷 France, 🇬🇭 Ghana, 🇱🇾 Libya, and the 🇷🇺 Soviet Union.
Then, pursuing the dream of a "Greater Somalia," Somaliland voluntarily united with Italian Somalia on July 1, 1960. That union collapsed into decades of chaos, civil war, genocide against Somaliland, by a failed state plagued by Al-Shabaab terrorists and pirates.
So why does the world—especially the UN—still bind peaceful, democratic Somaliland to this toxic marriage?
The union was never properly ratified, brought only suffering, and Somaliland has earned its freedom.
It's time to dissolve the failed union and recognize reality. Justice delayed is justice denied.

A #Somalia police colonel publicly called for the slaughter of Jews and Israelis, openly chanting genocidal slogans. He is a former member of Al-Shabaab, repeating the same extremist rhetoric he once used as a jihadist.
