In our Nigerian context, the question of braids or locs for men goes is best answered based on our local customs (urf) and values. Even though there are reports that the Prophet (peace be upon him) due to his long hair had his hair in four braids when he entered Makkah, doing that in our society today may be misrepresented and you risk being mischaracterised.

Importantly, our hair isn’t long, so braids or locs may be misrepresented. Because these styles are the common signature look for people of other lifestyles or those who celebrate indecency, we as Muslims should stay away to avoid Tashabbuh (imitation). You have to protect your Muru’ah which is your dignity.

Another technical issue with braids and locs is about Ghusl. For the ritual bath to be correct, water has to reach the scalp and the hair. If those locs are so tight that water cannot get inside, then your purification for prayer is not complete.

In all, if a hairstyle makes people think you belong to a crowd that has no values, you are doing a disservice to your own reputation. A man of substance shouldn't look like a rebel; he should look like the stability and ethics he stands for.

I just left Facebook now and I couldn’t help but reminisce on how far we have outgrown some of our fantasies of the past.

Apparently, I went to a Christain school, I used to have one beautiful friend then. Guess whose wedding pictures I just saw on Facebook? She is the one.

When I looked at the man she married and the kind of man she told me she would get married to back then, there is a stark difference 🤩

Back then, we used to have all that boyfriend and girlfriend talk where everyone would daydream about the kind of partner they wanted.

This just brings me to the point that as our knowledge and age grow, we outgrow those things and focus on the things that matter.

It was beautiful to watch and I am genuinely happy for her. Happy congratulations to my friend 👏🏿👏🏿

Never neglect the Nawāfil under the excuse that they are not obligatory. The obligatory prayers are what Allāh has commanded from you, but the Nawāfil are among the greatest means of drawing nearer to Him, attaining His love, and rising above others in rank and devotion.

They beautify your obligatory acts, mend their shortcomings, soften the heart, and illuminate the soul. More importantly, they are a clear sign of sincere love and commitment to the Sunnah and the blessed path of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallāLlāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam). The lovers of Allāh never suffice with the minimum when the doors of nearness remain open.

Frog is kọ̀ǹkọ̀. It's the one that's edible. It has smooth skin, long legs and doesn't have poison gland

Toad is ọ̀pọ̀lọ́. We don't eat it because it has ugly warty skin and it has poison gland. So, it's poisonous. It's legs are also short.

Our Yorùbá forebearers made many statements that show that one is edible while the other is not.

1. Bí a bá gbé ọ̀pọ̀lọ́, ti kò bá jọ kọ̀ǹkọ̀, àá gbée sílẹ̀ ní. It means 'if we catch the toad and we see that it's different from the frog, we let it go." (Because it cannot be eaten)

King Sunny Ade said in his Merciful God track "Mò ń yan fanda fanda lójú apẹ̀gàn. Bí ọ̀pọ̀lọ́ ṣe ń yan lójú ẹlẹ́gùúsí. Ẹlẹ́gùúsí ò gbọdọ̀ yíi láta. This means, I strut in the presence of my detractors like a toad struts in the presence of Ẹ̀gúsí soup maker. The soup maker dares not cook it.

1hr after the whole day group interview, I got the phone call I can never forget, “Congratulations, they all loved you. When can you start?”

A lady’s car broke down at Bolade Bus Stop, opposite Arena Market, around 10pm. She was surrounded by touts and street urchins.

I was driving out of GRA when I noticed the situation. I parked and asked what was wrong. She had already paid one group about ₦10,000, but another set came, threatening to deflate her tyres and seize her phone. I spoke to them in street language, trying to calm things down, but they insisted on ₦100,000.
I called a friend in the Army at Maryland Barracks. Though he wasn’t around, he sent someone who arrived in less than five minutes, with a mechanic. The car was fixed quickly, and she didn’t pay a dime.

She’s married, but her husband lives in Germany, and she only visits occasionally due to work. Since that night, we’ve stayed in touch. Over time, we became close, she shares work issues, relationship matters, and often seeks my advice.

Years later, there was an opening in her company’s finance department. I referred a friend of mine, a newly married man with a child who lost his job after COVID-19. Out of over 100 applicants, he got the job.
He later relocated to the UK with his family in 2021. Before returning to Nigeria, he asked me to help find a house. I found one in Abule Egba that needed minor renovation for ₦70M. He sent the money, and I added ₦5M to pay for my inconveniences.

While he was still in the UK, he shipped his car Lexus RX350 2023 and a Toyota Corrolla 2012 to my place, where it stayed for over 8 months before his arrival. While I went to pick him up at the Airport, he asked if I was already driving the Corrolla, I told him No since I have my own car, he said, that was for you.

His words to me were: “Seun, I have a family, but I feel safer and more comfortable with you than even my own blood relatives so there is nothing I have done and would do for you that is denser to the impact you've made in my life and family.

My good deeds are no longer preserve in heaven, I’m now reaping them on earth. Kindness, integrity, and showing up for people in difficult moments open doors money cannot buy. The value you give consistently will always return, through unexpected opportunities and lifelong trust.
