#NEW: GTA elementary school teacher making 120K a year says that she ‘had better expectations’ for her finances. Here’s what happened

@iotaetapie@Teachers__Unite Teachers with 12+ years of experience in Toronto should be making over $100 000, but with all of the deductions, it can still be a struggle to afford everything.
@djy7770@TDotResident With inflation, the sunshine list threshold should be much higher than $100 000…compared to when it was introduced in 1996, as of 2023, an equivalent salary would be almost $178 000. It’s no longer relevant.
@screws1974@CityNewsTO Not everyone wears a wedding ring at all times. Also, maybe she gained or lost weight as a result of the surgery which could affect how a ring fits. No need for speculation about their marriage as a result of jewellery choices.
@nowoolovreyz@CTVToronto The last total solar eclipse visible in most of Canada was in February 1979…so, yeah, if you remember being a kid 45 years ago, you should also remember that risk accountability for things like school boards was much less.
@CRF6662@LexsWorld@CoryBMorgan This way permanent teachers can’t apply for EI in the summer the way many do when they’re on a forced layoff, which is essentially what happens to teachers in the summer. Supply teachers can apply despite potentially having made what a permanent teacher makes over 12 months in 10
@CRF6662@LexsWorld@CoryBMorgan I get paid in the summer because I have a permanent position, those who are supply teachers or who take on long term occasional assignments don’t get paid over the summer even though their wage overall would be equal to that of a permanent teacher at the same level of seniority.
@LexsWorld@joadomeit@CoryBMorgan Most teachers don’t assign homework because it rarely gets done and it can’t be assessed. That has nothing to do with the quality of education he receives in the classroom. Not all assessments are based on what most parents consider to be assignments anymore either.
@ms_a_richardson@TribuneDrive So cute! E asked me today if I liked his PJs today, I told him I absolutely did…then asked the same question…his response was, I like yours too…I like dogs (they had dogs acting like teachers on them) 🤣
I feel like I have good rapport with many students, but the effect of my rapport on student work completion/effort/ethic isn’t having the same reach it had in the past. Before, that rapport could encourage students to work/try. Not as much now.
Has anyone else encountered this?
