The Defense Minister, Mohammed Badaru, has launched a "Thank A Soldier" digital program aimed at linking Nigerians with active military personnel and the families of those who have lost their lives in service.

During a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Badaru announced that the initiative was created as a component of the activities planned for the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day in 2026.

He stated that the interactive platform, which can be accessed through a QR code, enables citizens to send personalized messages of gratitude and tributes to Armed Forces members.

He characterized the 2026 celebration, themed “Valour, Sacrifice, and Unity: Honouring Our Heroes,” as a time for the nation to contemplate and express appreciation for the military's sacrifices in maintaining Nigeria's peace and sovereignty.

The minister emphasized that the celebration offers a chance to deepen the connection between the military and civilians by engaging in remembrance ceremonies, community service activities, and promoting national unity.

He noted that the celebration's key events comprise the launch of the National Emblem Appeal by President Bola Tinubu on November 27, interfaith services, a day dedicated to humanitarian efforts, a national symposium, and a wreath-laying ceremony scheduled for January 15, 2026.

Badaru mentioned that this year's strategy would incorporate greater involvement from young people and civil society to enhance civic responsibility and foster a sense of national pride.
