APC Completes 100% Upload of 471 Candidates on INEC Portal

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday announced the successful upload of all its candidates for the 2027 general elections onto the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Candidate Nomination Portal (ICNP).

In a statement issued by the party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the APC confirmed that it has submitted a total of 471 candidates, comprising the presidential ticket, 109 senatorial candidates, and 360 candidates for the House of Representatives.

The National Chairman expressed satisfaction with the achievement, describing it as a significant milestone for the ruling party.

“I congratulate our candidates, leaders, and members of APC on the successful 100% upload of our Presidential, Vice Presidential, Senate, and House of Representatives candidates on the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal (ICNP),” the chairman said.

He added: “With this milestone achieved, our focus now shifts to mobilization and preparations for a successful campaign and decisive victory at the polls.”

BREAKING: APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, Reply Wike Demands Resignation of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Over Interference in Party Affairs

The APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru has called on Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to immediately resign from his cabinet position.

The demand follows Wike's stern warning earlier today to Basiru to "leave Rivers State alone" and steer clear of its politics, amid accusations of meddling. Wike, speaking during a thank-you visit to supporters in Oyigbo Local Government Area, described Rivers as a "no-go area" for external interference, cautioned against taking his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for granted, and alleged that some APC leaders were scrambling for alleged N600 billion "largesse" in the state. He warned that meddlers could "burn their hands," referencing past political consequences.

In a statement released in Osogbo, Osun State, Basiru described Wike's response as a "tirade" and "uncouth," insisting it was provoked by his own principled defense of governors' respect within the party including Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara regardless of political differences.

The statement reads: “My attention has been drawn to the tirade of the Minister of the FCT against my person and my office as the National Secretary of the APC. This is as regards my position that all members of the NWC must accord any sitting Governor his due respect and that the Governors remain the leaders of the Party in their States. It is shocking that such an innocuous statement can elicit such uncouth responses from no less than a member of the Federal Executive Council.

“For the avoidance of doubt, our records indicate that Minister Nyesom Wike is not a member of our Party (APC) so he lacks the locus to dabble into the affairs our Party. And as National Secretary of the APC, I am imbued with the responsibility to protect the interests of the Party and all its members and structures. Hence, my comments on the affairs of the APC in Rivers State CANNOT be an undue interference in the affairs of Rivers State. As National Secretary, my activities cannot be confined to my home state, Osun State.

“I also take exception to Wike reference to a certain N600 billion largesse in the State for which I and other APC leaders are scrambling. This is nothing but cheap blackmail which has become his stock-in-trade. My background, track-record is that of unquestionable intergrity and I challenge him to prove his allegations or we may meet in court.

“As to his veiled threat against me, let me remind WIKE that he is not God and may be overplaying his political card. My faith is in God and will not succumb to cheap threats such as the one from WIKE. I am one of the young Nigerians that confronted Military rule, fighting for democracy, when the likes of Wike were nowhere in sight.

“Let me also remind Nyesom Wike that his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, does not automatically make him a member of the APC. Millions of non-APC Nigerians also support Mr. President and his own is no different. His attempt to destabilise our Party in Rivers State will not be tolerated and he cannot bring the spirit of PDP into the APC.

“Finally, my advice to Nyesom Wike is that he cannot be in the Federal Executive Council of an APC Government and be causing confusion within any organ or structure of the Party at any level, using the leverage of that same office. The honourable thing to do is to resign his appointment as Minister.“

ICPC Invites Aliko Dangote to Provide Evidence in Probe of Former NMDPRA Chief Farouk Ahmed

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has invited billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote to appear before its investigators or send a representative to formally adopt and substantiate his petition alleging corruption against Farouk Ahmed, the immediate past Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

Sources within the ICPC confirmed that Dangote is expected to attend on Monday, December 22, or be represented by his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja (SAN). The commission has established a special panel of senior investigators to handle the case, with preparations reportedly completed and the panel approved by ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN).

The petition, submitted on December 16, accuses Ahmed of living beyond his legitimate means by allegedly spending over $7 million on the education of his four children at elite schools in Switzerland. Dangote further alleged that Ahmed engaged in economic sabotage by issuing import licenses for petroleum products, purportedly in collusion with international oil traders, undermining Nigeria's local refining capacity.

Despite Ahmed's recent resignation from the NMDPRA, ICPC officials stated that the investigation will proceed, emphasizing its public interest implications. "The resignation does not halt the probe," a source said, adding that Dangote must provide supporting documents and evidence. Once the petition is formally adopted, Ahmed will be invited to respond.

The ICPC assured a fair and unbiased process under the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, with potential penalties of up to five years imprisonment upon conviction.

This development follows escalating tensions between Dangote Refinery and the NMDPRA earlier in 2025 over regulatory issues, including fuel quality standards and import licenses. The allegations remain under investigation, with no charges filed yet.
