THE LION YOU SEARCH FOR IS HIM
When I look at Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi , I see the companion of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) Abu Bakr al-Siddiq in him. I see him put into practice the very words Abu Bakr uttered when he was appointed Caliph:
والضعيف فيكم قوي عندي حتى أريح عليه حقّه إن شاء الله، والقوي فيكم ضعيف حتى آخذ الحق منه إن شاء الله.
'The weak among you shall be strong in my eyes until I secure their rights for them, God willing; and the strong among you shall be weak in my eyes until I extract justice from them, God willing.'
Whenever there is a person of truth standing in a position of weakness, you will certainly find Sheikh Gumi there standing with them, even if the cost is having the whole of mankind against him. He stood with Ahmad Sani Yarima during the Shari'a law dilemma, aided the people of Palestine in their struggle, and stood with the innocent people of Tudun Biri who suffered from careless military attacks by building them a school and placing a scholar in their midst. He stood for those in Sokoto who were brutally killed in another "mistaken" military attack, and for the innocent Fulani in the bush who were brutally slaughtered by coordinated attacks from both outside and within. And, of course, he stood with Deborah, who was mercilessly murdered over a supposed blasphemy charge. These are only a few instances, and the list of ignored instances is endless.
Wherever there is an oppressor, no matter his might, power, or position, Gumi will stand face-to-face with him and fight until the weak can breathe again. We have seen how he stood against the government led by former President Goodluck Jonathan, openly calling for his resignation when bloodshed became the order of the day, yet still describing him as a very good and kindhearted man. Afterward, he fiercely fought against the merciless governance of late President Buhari and tirelessly spoke out against him. He stood up to the United States, its leader Trump, and Israel, a task that those capable of undertaking are as few as Arabic vowel marks. And not to forget the baby Traore who is full of energy and dreams of challenging the will of God. Even regarding the tyranny happening in Saudi Arabia, where scholars are left to rot in dungeons merely for speaking their minds, Gumi is not silent. This is how fair he is: it does not matter if the monster is a friend or an enemy; they all become the latter.
This man is hated for upholding the words of Caliph Abu Bakr:
لا يدع قوم الجهاد في سبيل الله إلا ضربهم الله بالذلّ، ولا تشيع الفاحشة في قوم قطّ إلا عمّهم الله بالبلاء.
'No people abandon striving in the path of God except that God strikes them with humiliation, and immorality never spreads among a people except that God engulfs them in affliction.'
This is what detractors dislike about Gumi. He has brought many Muslims back to their senses regarding the boygeyman version of Jihad, created by the West to do its bidding. The same agenda being pushed today in Nigeria.
Gumi is doing God's work, and until that mission is achieved, you can only read his words, listen to them, and feel them in your bones. He will not stop just like Abubakar did not withdraw from his fight against those who denied him Zakat though Umar and many other companions advised against it. It is the will of God.
May Allah preserve the flag bearer.
