@IamJadehawk @LockeCuChulainn @commaficionado@AceofDragons1 Autism is normal, and ABA should not be used for robotic use to normalise children. But some of the strategies help with memory retention, and that is the ABA component I found helpful.
@IamJadehawk @LockeCuChulainn @commaficionado@AceofDragons1 I am autistic, I did ABA training. I do not believe in the strict application if ABA. My son could not read or write. I used ABA in my own home with my own child along with play therapy, CBT, DBT, etc. He is now an adult studying at uni. He is still autistic.
@autienelle The best response I’ve ever had was a work colleague/friend who said “of course you are darling” she gave me a smile and a hug. I felt truely valued for who I was. Our relationship never changed.
@commaficionado I always felt like I had imposter syndrome, it was like everyone else knew so much more than l did. I now realise we all have different types of knowledge, people mostly don’t know what the spectrum is. You are good at what you do, you teach people.
@commaficionado Autistic people are still human beings, each human experience is also unique. The unfortunate part of the human experience is that judgement is often cast far too quickly. A persons emotional wellbeing needs to be more of a priority rather than provocation.
@commaficionado Parenting is challenging. It doesn’t matter how many children a person has, each child is uniquely different and the parenting experience changes each time. It’s like trying to figure out a complex maze, each child should come with their own instruction manual.
@Rhiannon_Elf @commaficionado That’s the type of comment that upsets me most, why does something have to be WRONG with you. There is nothing WRONG with being autistic.
@DanielSHolt @Lollardfish I am a person on the autism spectrum, nothing more needs to be said. If a person relies on a wheelchair for mobility they are in a wheelchair (many different reasons) they can’t be more or less in a wheelchair.
@Generali11 @Sara_Rose_G This is very normal behaviour for someone on the autism spectrum. When you don’t follow the rules and he is in the car, and has no control, it would cause him extreme internal distress. The easy fix is, don’t speed.
@commaficionado I see popular as part of the whole innate survival behaviour of secondary years. Students go from Year 6, high on the pecking order to Year 7, at the bottom of the pecking order. Plus dealing with major structural changes of the brain, body, hormones and reduced impulse control.
@commaficionado Any role that involves the actual care of another human being, nursing, teaching, etc. seems to be scrutinised often. People who care for other human beings usually work incredibly hard. We all needed to be kinder to each other. You’re no more fragile than anyone else.
@commaficionado Whatever you decide, it’s hard. Mental health is important and that might be the biggest battle for a lot of people. Be kind to yourself and to those around you.
@commaficionado Live in Australia. US media reports here more than UK. News reports re UK about lack of PPE, foolishness of herd immunity and lack of leadership. My thoughts, politicians are putting economics ahead of peoples lives and I’m concerned.
@commaficionado Most comments in the conversation stream relate to females changing. Female presentations are more difficult to diagnose in childhood. I don’t think a person becomes autistic, they become themselves and finally feel like they understand themselves better.
@commaficionado Sometimes it’s like life catches me a little unaware and tips me off balance, and at that moment it’s like l am in the world but not truely a part of the world. It’s like I’m on the outside looking in. That’s when self doubt sets in, and then l stop and reframe my thinking 😊
