When I’m trying to write the book about my Oma’s life, there are some parts which I fear people will think I’ve made up, or at least exaggerated. This story about her arrival in Freyhan, taken from her memoir, is one of them:

Freyhan (Cieszków) is a little village which is now in Poland

One of the most exciting things we found was a suitcase full of linen undergarments which formerly belonged to my wife’s great aunt and to *her* mother. Several of them are embroidered with their name/initials. We’re hoping to offer them to the local museum.

Those ten colonists, including my ancestor, moved over 500 km from Waiblingen to Hohengrieben.
And Waiblingen, a town near Stuttgart, is really not far from where my Jewish ancestors lived!

This afternoon I found my Great Uncle Fritz (Friedrich Schwarz) on a deportation list. We had never known the exact date he was taken.
Now I know that he was sent to Theresienstadt, along with 44 others (37 women and 7 other men), on 14th March 1945
