Fault lines occur along the Rift valley as a result of earth movements that 'tear apart' sections of the earth.

In some places, lava from the crust finds its way through these faults and form mountains along the valley floor, as seen in the southern part of Kenya's Rift valley.

Kilifi creek near Kilifi town is a coastal plain estuary where the Voi (Goshi) river empties into the Indian Ocean.

Due to tidal action and rise in sea level, the ocean water drowned the river valley and formed the large creek.

Kilifi town was started adjacent to the creek.

Nyandarua is mountain county. Few other places in Kenya have as many peaks over 3000m high.

The relatively high elevation of Kinangop plateau reduces the prominence of these mountains but peaks like Satima (4001m) & Kipipiri (3349m) are some of the highest places in Kenya.
