“The tale of Subaru Natsuki would begin anew. His life in another world would start over. —From zero.”

This is the most beautiful chapter I’ve ever read and has ultimately solidified Re:Zero as my Top 1 piece of media.

“From Zero” was already my favorite episode of Re:Zero. It’s actually an excellent adaptation and not that much inferior to the source material. Still, only now have I truly gotten every detail and message from this whole conversation between Subaru and Rem, which is now my Top 1 moment in fiction. I probably didn’t pay the best attention while watching the anime because there are so many things new to me now that I’m reading the novel and everything is explained perfectly.

Subaru is my favorite protagonist in fiction and I’m only at the beginning of the story. I can absolutely say he’s just like me, which I was already able to say as an anime-only to some extent. But now I really feel like his character is exactly how I would act if I was sent to another world and went through all of that suffering. I’ve never seen a fictional character this relatable and I love that about Subaru.

Berserk has been my Top 1 for over half a year, but it has finally been dethroned by what I believe to be the most flawless story I’ve read up to this point. This isn’t recency bias and should’ve been expected from how much I’ve been talking about Re:Zero these last few months. It was only a matter of time and I just needed one more peak for this to happen. This series perfectly matches my taste and does everything I need in my ideal story. Not everyone would share the same opinion as me, but I personally think it is perfect so far. From now on, I will really start glazing Re:Zero like never before.
