Angel McCoughtry was only in her second WNBA season when she became the youngest player in league history to score 40 points in a playoff game. She exploded for 42 points to send the Atlanta Dream to the franchise's first-ever WNBA Finals.

That 2010 Finals ended in heartbreak. Atlanta was swept by the Seattle Storm, but the series was much closer than the 3-0 result suggests. The Dream lost by just 2, 3, and 3 points. In Game 1, McCoughtry had a chance to give Atlanta the lead in the final minute, but her jumper missed and Seattle answered with the game-winning basket. In Game 3, she scored 35 points but came up just short on a potential game-tying three in the closing seconds.

Even in defeat, McCoughtry was phenomenal throughout the postseason, averaging (26.7) points, (5.4) rebounds, (2.3) assists, and (2.0) steals per game.

She returned to the Finals the following season, averaging (23.1) points, (5.5) rebounds, and (3.0) steals during the 2011 postseason. However, fourth-quarter breakdowns in the first two Finals games against the up-and-coming Minnesota Lynx put the Dream in a hole they couldn't climb out of.

McCoughtry never won a WNBA championship, but there was no denying she was one of the league's premier players during the early 2010s. From 2010 to 2013, she led the Atlanta Dream to three WNBA Finals appearances in four seasons while averaging (21.4) points, (5.1) rebounds, (3.3) assists, (2.3) steals, and (0.8) blocks per game during the regular season. She also won back-to-back scoring titles in 2012 and 2013, led the league in steals in 2012 and 2014, and finished third in scoring and second in steals in 2015.
