Microsoft is making a Windows 11 security feature more widely available, but could hurt gaming performance on some PCs around 5-10%

Starting in October 2026, Microsoft will begin enabling Memory Integrity (HVCI) on more compatible Windows 11 systems.

The feature is designed to make Windows more secure by protecting the system from malicious or vulnerable drivers but memory Integrity and VBS can use additional system resources and reduce gaming performance.

Previous testing has found an average gaming performance loss of around 5%, Some older CPUs losses of 10% or more in some tests.

Thomas Mahler, director of No Rest for the Wicked and creator of Ori, has launched a new review site called VideoGamesCritic.

He wants give players more weight than professional critics, Two-thirds of the score comes from Steam users, while critics make up the remaining third.

Mahler says sites like Metacritic and OpenCritic mainly show what critics thought about a game, while his site focuses more on what the people actually playing it think.

“Press still counts, it just can’t outvote the people who bought the game.”

The site also gives reviewers and outlets a trust score based on how closely their opinions match player reactions.

It also takes newer Steam reviews more seriously, so a game that improves over time can see its score change.

Mahler calls VideoGamesCritic “the one source of truth for gamers.”

Another tool that used to belong to one guy now belongs to a company.

SteamDB was the site you opened to see if a game actually updated, what it cost, how many people were on it. xPaw ran it until he burned out. Nexus Mods’ owners bought it.

AyakaMods exists because Nexus kept taking the scissors to the catalog. They host the files Nexus dumps and the ones authors don’t want on a hall-monitor site. No sermon. Just the files.

Hayden Panettiere gone too soon today at just 36 years old 😔

The actress and voice performer best known for Heroes, Nashville, and the Scream franchise, has passed away at just 36.

Her representative confirmed her death in a statement, remembering her as someone who brought tremendous joy to those who knew her and millions who watched her onscreen.

Panettiere began acting as a child and built a career that crossed television, film, animation, and video games. Her best-known roles included:
