This “30-year-old Redwood City man” illegally entered the US from Mexico in 2001.

He broke into a woman’s home and sexually assaulted her in her sleep. He committed the same crime a month prior.

Cruz has a lengthy criminal history that includes 2014 convictions for possession of burglary tools, second-degree commercial burglary, and first-degree burglary, multiple arrests between 2015 and 2016 for false identification and burglary that were suspended after he was found mentally incompetent, and a 2023 arrest for multiple violent offenses including assault with a deadly weapon, resisting officers, and battery charges.

None of the publicly available news reports reference his prior convictions, arrests, mental health history, or immigration history.

Instead of deporting these criminals, California gives them free healthcare, free housing, and free welfare.

This is exactly what happened in gymnastics decades ago. Our national team coach, who we -- as minors -- traveled around the world with, was rumored to be a sexual predator. We were told, don't say anything just don't let him come in your room. He's an Olympic coach. Don't smear him. He's one of the good guys.

No investigation. Just sweeping it under the rug.

He mattered more than we did.

In 2011 he was banned from the sport for life because of the testimony of a few brave women.

But USAG was willing to put untold numbers of young girls in harm's way to protect his reputation. Until they couldn't contain the reports any longer.
