We got our power back today, which is nice. Would have been nicer to have somewhat of an estimate of when that would have been. How much ice should we buy, how much extra gas do we need to buy, how much effort should I put into trying to keep food from the fridge cold in coolers, do we need to move in with family just down the road that has power, etc etc?
Thanks to the folks out there repairing things.
DTE as a company, you have to do better all around. You totally screwed hundreds of thousands of people. I get storms happen and they can be unpredictable but c’mon your response was disastrous just like it has been for years. Your service is unreliable and your response is worse and neither has improved in my lifetime.
I hate that DTE is my only option for power.
I’ve got all the respect in the world for the guys out there doing the job. Dangerous work in any weather condition day or night.
My issue is with the incompetence of DTE as a company. Historically one of the worst (if not the worst) utility company across the country without any improvements seen by the customers while rates continually rise.
They bragged about being ready for the heat this week, then they bragged about being ready for the storms on Friday, and now they themselves say no compensation losses and to speak with your homeowners insurance instead.
It’s really hard as a customer to be okay with a utility company that’s making a ton of money each year and provided some of the worst service across the nation. They tell their customers to buy generators.
It’d be like Ford telling their customers to buy a Toyota just in they need a car because they have no faith in their F-150s.
Stop arguing with customers and tell us what you’re actually doing, when you’re doing it, and what realistic expectations we can have.
While you’re at it, please stop spending advertising money and just put that money into fixing the system. I don’t want to hear on the radio and tv all the great work you’re doing when none of that is actually working.
DTE’s customer service, reliability, and response has been dismal for years and years while you petition for rate increases with no value seen at the customer level.
@DTE_Energy@andrew_mecca_ Well the fact that your power outage map that updates every 10 minutes showed an increasing number of people without power throughout the day seems to prove otherwise.
I’m so tired of this miserable excuse of a utility company I can’t even explain it. I thought Comcast was the company I hated most until years ago it dawned on me that at least there are other options for cable providers. We’re stuck with DTE’s historical and nationally known incompetence and there is nothing any of us can do about it.
@63suzieg@DTE_Energy Fortunately this is a first for us, never had flooded basement before but that’s another thing that drives me crazy around here is that it’s just accepted as a thing that is going to happen at some point.
What a mess can’t imagine going through this over and over gosh.
@DTE_Energy This is a terribly incompetent corporate reply. You’ve been boasting all week about how your crews are ready for the heat, then you boasted about how your crews are ready for the weather, now your saying too bad call your home owners and recommending people go out and buy generators to help relieve the burden of power outages.
Seriously I have family in Texas and Florida that get hit with actual hurricanes and if they lose power, it’s for 24 hours max. DTE is an embarrassment.
@DTE_Energy - Well you finally broke me down, drove across two counties to buy a portable generator to get my sump pump running again because my mechanical backup wasn’t able to keep up demand in its own. 2 inches of water across my whole basement.
Still no estimate on any of your sites or media for my address. Lost power before there was a storm warning issued. Not even bothering to check if you’ve responded to the private message I sent you Friday evening at your request because you’ve been ignoring that as well.
@DTE_Energy I haven’t had power for 28 hours now, lost it before there was even a storm warning issued yesterday.
Your update page for my address says there’s no estimate for power being restored and has never had one.
You texted me during the 10 minute storm to let me know my power issue was resolved which it wasn’t. So I had to file another report with you just to be sure you knew I still had no power.
And now you’ve finally bested the backup pump for my sump pump and my basement has two inches of water all across it.
@DTE_Energy@DTE_Energy your power out map showed 217,000 without power when I looked at it earlier this morning and now it’s at 234,000.
You’re % is going in the wrong direction.
@DTE_Energy You guys have any idea how to stop a 2021 Buick Envision from turning itself off every 30 mins which turns on all the interior lights, unlocks the doors, making me press the break pedal to turn it back on which auto repositions my seat from fully reclined back to its original position and turns on the headlights making me turn them back off so I’m not blasting my neighbor across the street? Going to be tough getting decent sleep over the next 3-4 nights if this keeps happening every 30 mins. If not, then at least I still have AC and can charge my phone and things.
Also, ran out of @DrewLaneShow podcasts to listen to so be been brain storming some new brews maybe @Griffinclaw can put out on the market:
- Brownout Brown, malty smooth and dimly lit
- Customer Complaint Kolsch, refreshing unlike DTE’s customer service center and X page
- Amp-less Amber, full flavor with zero amps
- Detroit Total Eclipse Stout, darker than your neighborhood after a light drizzle
- Storm Prep Pilsner, slow brewed just like DTE’s prep and response time
- Restoration Crew Red, full bodied and arrives tomorrow…maybe
@DTE_Energy@DTE_Energy You said your crews are ready…to get everyone fixed after the weekend? To your credit, you didn’t say *when* they’d be ready. For shame.
@DTE_Energy my power has been out for three hours now. At least an hour before the storms came through, maybe 1.5 hours by the time the storms hit. I reported it right away and there were no estimates because nobody knows why we lost power. Then in the middle of the storms, you text me that my issue was resolved which it was not actually resolved.
Now your update shows the cause of power outage is wind damage which is certainly false because I lost power (like I said) well before the storms came through. There is still no estimate and I have a medical need for electricity in my home. How long should a customer wait until they receive at least an estimate of when their power will come back on?
Everyone around me has whole home backup generators running which I think is almost criminal to accept paying for as insurance for power in 2026 when we are all already paying outrageous fees with your company with no other option for electricity from another company, and all you do is brag about how much you’re improving the power system for your customers.
You literally have one job, keep power on. I have family in Texas and Florida that get hit with hurricanes and they don’t lose power. C’mon…
I honestly believe that. Cause has been updated to “wind damage” but I lost power 1.5 hours before these storms came through and there was zero wind at the time. In the middle of the storm I got a text update saying my issue was resolved and make no mistake, it was not in fact resolved.
