Recognizing the Taliban in any form while deporting Afghan refugees isn’t policy; it’s a betrayal. Human rights are not bargaining chips for political convenience. Stand with the people of Afghanistan, their rights, their dignity, and their future.
I am honored to join JINA Alliance and Displaced International, two distinguished Washington, D.C.-based organizations, as a member of their advisory boards. I look forward to supporting their vital work, including their research and advocacy initiatives, particularly in advancing human rights.

Great hearing Secretary Hillary Clinton and Secretary Mike Pompeo discuss the shifting geopolitical power dynamics of today compared to the post–Cold War order. These changes raise important questions about their impact on international security, regional conflicts, and great-power rivalries; a timely and insightful conversation on the risks and opportunities of an increasingly fragmented world order.
It was a pleasure to host Olena Boryshpolets in my class for a rich discussion on the City of Asylum, writers at risk, Ukrainian literature, documentary poetry, and her latest works.
A former lawyer, Olena is a poet, writer, journalist, actress, and cultural manager. She is the laureate of the Konstantin Paustovsky Municipal Literary Prize for her poetry collection Blue Star, a member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, and co-founder of the public organization “Creation Without Borders.”
Currently, Olena serves as a writer-in-residence at City of Asylum and a Research Scholar at the Global Studies Center, University of Pittsburgh. Her poems and personal story deeply resonated with me and profoundly moved and informed the audience, including my students.
Our latest piece — co-authored with Dr. Paulo Casaca, former Member of the European Parliament and Chair of the Delegation for Relations with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly — examines the Taliban Foreign Minister’s recent symbolic acceptance of women journalists in India.
