The United States has some excellent organising traditions and practices we would do well to learn from here in the UK
The “No Arena in Chinatown” in Philly defeated plans for a super arena. Here's how they did it:

From Chinatown, With Love: No Arena Block Party
Join in celebration with folks from across the city who helped defeat the arena!
Sunday, February 2
2 pm to 5 pm
Friendship Gate at 10th and Arch Streets
Today the No Arena coalition let everyone know what we think about the Center City Sixers arena no longer haunting our city. This coalition is made up of people from all across the city, from all different backgrounds, who came together to fight for a city that works for everyone
This was always bigger than one arena or one neighborhood. We celebrate that Chinatown is safe for now, but nobody’s home is safe as long as billionaire developers are planning our city and politicians are playing their game.
Funny to see naïveté automatically associated with celebration.
No one is more educated on the corporate forces shaping this fight than the activists who have spent years educating the public on the 76ers’ bad-faith effort.
Thank you for everything, @NACSphilly!
🎶 #NoArena Caroling at Christmas 🎶
NACS invites you to Chinatown on Christmas Day to sing "no arena" carols & light the first Chanukah candle with Rabbi Linda Holtzman.
Join us in 2-4 PM @ 10th & Arch St. to celebrate resistance, community, & the miracle of Chinatown. ✊🎄
City Council approved the Sixers’ proposal over the overwhelming objections of the city’s planning and design community, the surrounding neighborhoods, and dozens of organizations. This is a bad deal. I want to be clear that I will not support state funding for this project. 1/2
The arena is a bad deal for Philly and will have irrevocable impacts on the Chinatown community.
As a legislator, I will continue to oppose spending state dollars on this project and fight for the proposals we truly need to invest in our city and push back against displacement.
🚨 This Thursday, City Council will vote on the Sixers arena deal & a CBA (community benefits agreement) that’s a slap in the face to Philly. As schools close & SEPTA hikes fares, Council is giving away our future to billionaires.
Philly deserves real protections & real money!
🚨 Here’s how YOU can help:
1️⃣ Show Up Thursday, December 19 at 8AM
📍 City Hall – Pack the room and tell Council we won’t accept this sellout deal!
2️⃣ Call & Email Your Councilmembers
Tell them to VOTE NO on this toxic CBA.

Call your City Councilors TODAY before the final vote this week. Let’s make it clear: We’re not giving up, we’re doubling down.
Our City Council and Mayor must put everyday Philadelphians over billionaire profits.
