With the rising incidence of candidaemia and the use of fluconazole, optimising the quality of fluconazole prescribing is essential to preserve its effectiveness in treating serious infections, particularly for the most vulnerable patient groups🍄

Our newest circular is a deep dive analysis on fluconazole prescribing in the hospital setting, triangulating data from our Hospital NAPS and Antifungal NAPS datasets

Some key points are to:
✅Ensure there is a therapeutic need for fluconazole, particularly for asymptomatic candiduria and empiric therapy for intra-abdominal infections
✅Refer to evidence-based guidelines, always check for potential drug interactions and consider the need to dose reduce in renal impairment
✅Consider participation in the Antifungal NAPS module to measure the quality of antifungal prescribing in your hospital

Our latest NAPS @NCAS_Aus circular is a deep dive analysis on post-procedural SAP!

KEY POINTS
✅A single procedural antimicrobial dose is sufficient for most procedures
✅Post-procedural prophylaxis may be considered for some procedures but shouldn’t be for > 24 hrs
❌Do not extend duration of SAP until surgical drains, IV or urinary catheters are removed
