Two days ago, Kenya lost one it's most prominent yet least known sons, Mr Odhiambo Okello who nurtured many of Africa’s liberation heroes and became the first Executive Director of the Organisation of African Unity, now the African Union.

For over 30 years, he was virtually the face of OAU until his retirement to a quiet life in Siaya County.

May God grant him peace in his final rest.

In Kenya’s struggle for independence, Mr Okelo opened and headed the Kanu office in Cairo. A number of Africa’s liberation movements and their leaders found refuge in the Kenyan Cairo offices and worked closely with Mr Okelo.
