Brazilians will be marching out in force on September 7, on the anniversary of the nation's independence.

This year's commemoration carries a heavier burden, however. The recent actions by Alexandre de Moraes, particularly the ban on X, have awakened people to the fact that freedom isn't free and that it needs to be fought for.

Marching on Independence Day transcends a simple protest. It's a statement against judicial overreach and an assault on the freedom of information. It's a statement against tyranny.

This isn't merely a Brazilian issue. You should care about it if you believe in the principles of free speech. In the principles of justice.

Brazil's fight for its voice today could echo in the struggles for freedom everywhere. If Brazil falls, it won't be long before freedom everywhere else falls with it.
