Prop trading has been around much longer than the modern prop firm industry.

Back in the day, proprietary trading looked very different.

Prop firms would often identify a relatively small group of traders and give them the opportunity to trade the firm's capital.

Traders might be brought into the firm's office, assigned a live trading account, and evaluated based on their performance. Those who demonstrated consistent results could earn the opportunity to continue trading the firm's capital professionally.

Access was limited. You generally had to be in the right place, know the right people, or get an opportunity with a firm.

Then technology changed everything.

As electronic and online trading evolved, traders no longer needed to physically sit inside a prop firm's office to participate. Markets, platforms, data, and execution became accessible from almost anywhere in the world.

The modern retail prop industry took that accessibility even further.

Today, someone thousands of miles away can sign up online, complete an evaluation, demonstrate their trading ability, earn access to a funded account, and potentially progress to trading live capital.

What was once an opportunity available to a relatively small group of traders has become accessible to traders around the world.

The model has changed. The technology has changed. The industry continues to evolve.

And tomorrow, September 28, we celebrate that evolution and the community that has grown around it.
