Late night alerts, Weekend work with less sleep.

One day, sudden meeting.
15-minute HR call and before the call ended, his access was gone.

Later he told me what he learned:
1. Hard work was not part of the layoff decision. Numbers were.
2. His manager tried to help, but budget mattered more.
3. The only people who helped him were the ones he stayed in touch with before.
4. He got about 3 months of pay as severance. That was time to find a job, not time to relax. He started applying in 2 days.

He said:
“I thought employment meant stability.”

What he does now:
1. Treats jobs like short-term work.
2. Learns skills that stay with him.
3. Keeps ₹6–7 lakhs saved (around 6 months of expenses).
4. Keeps practicing for interviews.
5. Stays connected with people.

Work well. Just don’t think it will last forever.
