Josh O'Connor reflected on the lasting impact of his breakthrough role in 'God's Own Country' during an episode of 'Shut Up Evan', released on Netflix on 18 June.
After host Evan Ross Katz relayed a question from the film's director, Francis Lee, asking him to describe the legacy of the acclaimed queer drama a decade on, O'Connor spoke candidly about what the film means to him both professionally and personally.
“It came at a time in my life where the question of being able to receive and give love was, like, present,” he said. “And to me, that’s what that film, what Johnny Saxby is going through in that film, is that he is unable to receive love, to be loved, and to love.”
Reflecting on the film's honesty and emotional depth, O'Connor added, “There aren’t a load of things that I’m proud of, but that is one of them that I think it’s probably the thing I’m most proud of in my career.”
