My new piece: The dark side of the Flydubai flight.
The government is celebrating the passengers who saved the plane while trying to bury the staggering failure that put them in that position:
Israel had the crew data, warnings had been issued, responsibility had been assigned - And still, no one checked the pilot. And dozens or hundreds more. This could have been another 9/11.
The passengers did what the state failed to do: they protected themselves and Israel from catastrophe. Like Israelis did after the government and defense administration failure after October 7. It's a pattern in during the Netanyahu era. Link in the next tweet.
There is another story of October 7 that deserves to be told: what ordinary Israelis did when their country was attacked.
Thousands dropped everything.
Israelis abroad rushed home, many to report for reserve duty. Civilians drove south into danger to rescue strangers.
Within hours, volunteers created war rooms: locating the missing, evacuating families, housing the displaced, delivering food and equipment, helping wounded soldiers and supporting families who had lost everything.
Restaurants became kitchens. Hotels became homes. Volunteers helped farmers. Tech workers built systems connecting those who needed help with those who could provide it.
Hundreds of thousands volunteered.
October 7 exposed Israelis to unimaginable horror. But it also revealed the extraordinary resilience of Israeli society and its deep sense of mutual responsibility.
When systems failed, ordinary people stepped in. When strangers needed help, strangers came.
They didn’t wait to be told what to do.
They simply did what was needed. #October7Heroes
The holidays aren't one long sales push. Tyler Sorensen, Sr. Creative Strategist at Taboola, breaks down how your creative strategy should shift week by week this Q4
The ‘Beautiful 6’.
OTD in 2024, we remember these 6 beautiful souls, executed by Hamas in captivity in Gaza:
🕯️ Hersh Goldberg-Polin
🕯️ Almog Sarusi
🕯️ Eden Yerushalmi
🕯️ Alexander Lobanov
🕯️ Carmel Gat
🕯️ Ori Danino
May their memories always be blessed!
@TreyYingst@finnygo Insane, this valley was also badly hit during the earthquake - years ago. I was here in 2014, for the lang tang track, which starts from this village.
