"Don't You (Forget About Me)" was written by Keith Forsey and Steve Schiff specifically for The Breakfast Club (1985). Simple Minds were initially reluctant to record it because they preferred to perform their own material, and singer Jim Kerr was not particularly impressed with some of the lyrics. Before the Scottish band finally accepted the song, it had also been offered to other artists including Bryan Ferry and Billy Idol, both of whom turned it down.
Eventually the band agreed to record the song after developing a friendship with Forsey, while Kerr's then-wife, Chrissie Hynde, also encouraged him to give it a chance. Released in 1985 and featured prominently in The Breakfast Club, the song became Simple Minds' biggest hit in the US, spending one week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1985. It was their only US chart-topper and also reached No. 7 on the UK Singles Chart. The famous "la-la-la-la" ending was improvised by Kerr during the recording session and was originally meant as a placeholder, but Forsey insisted on keeping it.
In 1974, a chance meeting in a Memphis parking lot led to one of the quieter, more personal chapters of Elvis Presley’s final years.
Magnolia “Maggie” Smith was a college student majoring in biology. She had lost her father a few years earlier, she and her mother were struggling financially, and she had no reliable way to get to and from classes.
Elvis struck up a conversation with her, learned the situation, and offered her a job at Graceland. His main condition was that school come first. He wanted her focused on her studies and her grades.
He followed through on that in practical ways. He bought her a car so she could get to campus. He covered her tuition. He arranged regular pay and gave her a quiet place at Graceland where she could study without interruption.
Her official title from 1974 to 1977 was Executive Assistant.
The role was not limited to household work; she helped with whatever was needed around the house, spent time with Lisa Marie, answered phones, and traveled with the family on both Memphis and West Coast trips. A large staff kept Elvis’s life running, and she was part of that team in his last three years.
Maggie later described Elvis as a father figure. He would call to check on her grades and ask for full reports on her classes. He cried with her, prayed with her, and read to her.
One book he returned to was The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran, which he gave her. She recalled his humor as well as those more emotional moments, and she spoke of feeling closer to him than many people realized.
Accounts of the relationship appear in later writings that quote Maggie directly and in the wider oral history of Graceland staff.
Elvis’s well-known pattern of generosity toward people around him—cars, support for education, personal attention—makes the outline of the story consistent with how he treated others in his circle, even if the full details remain less documented than his public career.
Maggie’s role, as she and others described it, was both practical and personal: a job that prioritized her education while placing her inside the daily life of Graceland and the Presley family.🌹

Yeah the album cover looks absurd, but underneath it this is basically a Power Metal album. Listening to this right now for the first time in about a year or 2. The album never gets old. Amazing songs on here, but that awful album cover throws a lot of people off from it.
