Association of Liberal Democrats in North Devon. Promoted by Peter Leaver on behalf of Ian Roome (Liberal Democrats) all at 9, Cross Street Barnstaple, EX31 1BA
This week is Armed Forces Week in Parliament - when serving personnel, veterans, and forces charities host a big showcase on behalf of our military community.
On Monday, I sponsored several amendments to the Armed Forces Bill in partnership with the @PoppyLegion - covering everything from the rights of troops overseas, to extending the Armed Forces Covenant - and attended the formal flag-raising ceremony with the Military Kids Choir.
Yesterday I also met with @HelpforHeroes to learn more about 'The People's Promise': their published recommendations for how we can improve healthcare, financial services and other support given to veterans.
Today's exhibition sees the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force bring cutting-edge technologies to educate MPs on everything from bomb disposal to survival training, and the very latest battlefield medical advances.
A wonderful show of support for the Tyrrell in Ilfracombe this week - top work by the League of Friends of the Tyrrell Hospital for getting this organised, and a clear message that Ilfracombe wants genuinely local health services.
We've managed to win a last-minute rescue for the Minor Injuries Weekend service over the Summer - but the push for a longer-term settlement continues. That cause has now made its way into the Western Morning News, among others - keep it up everyone!
Polls have now closed.
Thank you to everyone who has voted Liberal Democrat today.
Thank you also to all our fantastic candidates up and down the country, and the thousands of members and volunteers who’ve joined us on the campaign trail.
It's been a brilliant campaign. 🔶🗳️🧡
Brilliant day out on the campaign trail with @EdwardJDavey yesterday - kicked off with a visit to the BIG Sheep, then off for some door-knocking alongside our fantastic Lib Dem Devon County Council candidates.
Huge thanks to everyone at The BIG Sheep for the warm welcome – we had a great time!
🦷This is a real win, not just for us in the Dental Steering Group, but our whole community🦷

No Prime Minister, I won't let this drop.
At Prime Minister's Questions today, I again pressed the urgent need to modernise critical care at North Devon District Hospital, and keep all our Operating Theatres open.
Delaying this investment is dangerous: after the empty words of the last Conservative government, I'm aghast at the new government's inaction in the face of growing risk to patients. The consequences will arrive before 2030, years before the investment in essential hospital facilities is planned - it simply cannot wait.
Our Open letter to the Health Secretary now has 6,000+ names on it, and you can still add yours, here: https://t.co/snv3Lqpg62
The Prime Minister says a Ministerial visit to NDDH will go ahead, and claims that the Government will support our Hospital Trust. Time to prove it.
It's #EnglishTourismWeek25, and I received a very warm welcome in Lynmouth from @visitexmoor , @ExmoorNP & @LLCliffRailway !
Tourism supports over 2 million jobs in the UK, and is particularly important to providing opportunity for school leavers and young people in many parts of the country - but faces some unique business challenges.
North Devon is a spectacular place to choose as your next destination - don't miss out on everything it has to offer! @VisitEngland
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who signed our Giant Letter in support of North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple this morning!
This one will certainly stand out in the Health Secretary's post-bag! We're fast approaching 6,000 names - add yours today: https://t.co/snv3LqoIgu
We must highlight the dire consequences if another ten years go by without vital upgrades to NHS critical care facilities here in North Devon. Greatly appreciate the help of local Barnstaple Councillors Caroline Leaver, Syed Jusef, Loki Dawson, Helen Walker, Joy Cann & David Knight in rallying more support!
I'm challenging Wes Streeting MP to honour his promise to visit North Devon District Hospital.

We're issuing an Open Letter to the Secretary of State for Health to honour his promise to me in Parliament this week: and visit North Devon District Hospital in person.
I want to show him why we cannot wait until the planned 2035 date for the essential rebuild of our hospital.
The New Hospital Programme should have been a lifeline. North Devon District Hospital is the remotest acute hospital in mainland England, with operating theatres and intensive care (ICU) facilities that are approaching 50 years old, over-capacity, and already declared end-of-life with a mounting backlog of maintenance costs.
Unlike in many cities, my constituents cannot simply travel to their next nearest hospital. We are risking patient safety and massive maintenance costs the longer we delay.

The Government has put patient safety at risk in North Devon, with their decision to delay the promised rebuild of North Devon District Hospital until 2035.
I absolutely will not give up in this battle (as the Health Secretary knows personally) - and I hammered home the scale of the danger North Devon faces again today in Parliament.
The last Conservative Government badly let down North Devon with false promises without any funding, and now Labour will deliver the money a decade too late.
Our hospital is mainland England’s most remote, and the cracks in its ageing infrastructure, the outdated main theatres and Intensive Care Unit, put the viability of critical care in jeopardy. Neglecting those problems today will have a ripple effect on the entire Devon healthcare system tomorrow. Yet now, the New Hospital Programme Review has kicked the issue squarely into the long grass.
I intend to take Wes Streeting MP up on his offer - and show Health Ministers NDDH myself if I must. They must publish an assessment of the impact that these delays will mean for people here in North Devon. NHS patients deserve transparency and honesty.
I won’t give up. I’ll keep fighting this tooth and nail every day for the hospital upgrade we so desperately need.
Attention Instow! We're delighted to announced that Becky Coombs will be our candidate in the upcoming Instow By-election on 9th January 2025.
