Today, @NDP National Director Lucy Watson announced she had stepped aside, appropriately, to make room for a party director chosen by the new leader.
To her, I offer my thanks and admiration. She took the role in challenging times, stuck through it in more challenging times, and is leaving with the grace I've grown to expect of her.
The Avi Lewis team would be wise to keep her close. There are few in politics who bring depth in all of strategy, organizing, communications, and human relations. Lucy Watson is one of those rare ones, and her departure will be felt.
Can't wait to see what she does next.
I am so sad to learn this news. It was my great pleasure to work with Hugh for so many years. His curiosity and his kindness never flagged. He even took me once on a day-long sail down the canal and I was honoured when he asked me to speak at his 60th birthday. RIP Hugh.
I was one of Anne McGrath’s friends that didn’t know about this until CBC Ottawa did a report (next tweet) on the 50th anniversary last fall. A very powerful interview. Thank you @NDPAnne

After her powerful interview on @PnPCBC, I wanted to talk to @NDPAnne about her own, searing experience as a school-shooting survivor. What a story. Here she is, in @TorontoStar: https://t.co/LBEoqCSexR #cdnpoli#TumblerRidge
For a few years (different network) there was another Friday night panel line up: me, @FredDeLorey and @NDPAnne (and that host is now doing great things at the Vatican). Getting the band back together as Anne pitch hits for Melanie Richer tonight via @PnPCBC
The leadership review process at BCNDP Convention gets almost the same result as the 2021 vote. Strong show of unity given the shifting economic winds this year and pressures on governments in all jurisdictions. #bcpoli

Always so many emotions on the Anniversary of Jack’s death. Glad I was able to spend the day at a great event remembering and honouring him with so many friends and colleagues. Still hopeful. Still optimistic. Still determined. #cdnpoli
He was an incredible leader and a dear friend — a pillar of our movement — who made life better for working people.
John always put the needs of others first.
I am heartbroken to lose him.
Rest in peace my friend. 🧡
I’m taking time today to remember Jack.
He loved to spend summer canoeing in the wild northern rivers and mountains. Some of my best memories with him are exploring the most beautiful places in northern Canada. ❤️
Jack Layton was an inspiration. 🧡
During tough times, he led with love, hope, and optimism.
It's been 13 years since Jack left us.
Today, New Democrats continue to follow his legacy as we fight for Canadians.
It's been 13 years since Jack left us.
In tough times, when some seek to divide us by where we were born or who we love, Jack taught us to respond with love, hope, and optimism.
He would have been proud of what we've accomplished:
Pharmacare. Dental Care. Support for workers.
And no matter how low our opponents go, we're focused on getting results for Canadians.
Still working on our project Jack. Won't let them tell us it can't be done. Love, not anger. Hope, not fear. Optimism, not despair. We'll change the world. Miss you so much, #cdnpolitics
Struck tonight by the gracious tone of the speeches by losing candidates in the UK election. Very refreshing and hopeful given recent developments in US. That said, very excited to see such a resounding Labour victory! #cdnpoli
@RABlaney has been kind, firm,&clear eyed in her focus on progressive values and her determined work to get results for people. It has truly been a privilege to have their support and friendship. Apologies &thanks to their families for their dedicated service to Canada. #cdnpoli
I have been so fortunate to work with amazing MPs over decades. I remember how excited Jack was when @CharlieAngusNDP and @CarolHughesMP decided to run to champion northern Ontario communities. They have both been fierce, courageous, determined, and effective.
The Broadbent Institute and Broadbent family welcome the announcement by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that a state funeral will be held for Ed Broadbent, who passed away on January 11, 2024.
Further details will be provided as they become available.

While Poilievre’s Cons play games and obstruct, millions of Canadians are about to be able to go to the dentist because of the NDP. This will change lives for the better. Full details tomorrow!
As Jack Layton always said, don’t let them tell you it can’t be done!
