@schoolytics Thanks for putting this discussion together. I'm very new to Twitter and still figuring it out (I'll get around to posting a profile pic soon). I'm looking forward to participating more in the education community for more conversations like this one. #formativechat
A4: Surveymonkey is a great tool for capturing students' honest opinions. The anonymity of it lets students say how they really feel. As for organizing data, you can't go wrong with good ol' reliable Microsoft Excel. #formativechat
A3: From my student teaching experience, data that is most useful is about understanding students' backgrounds and their needs. This is why it's so important for us to have ILPs and 504s. It lets us know how we can personalize students' learning experiences. #formativechat
A2: I think it depends on the progress report. Data I've looked at suggests that students aren't likely to feel connected to a student that only grades them. But an individualized progress report that tell students what they're excelling at is usually appreciated. #formativechat
@nathan_stevens@schoolytics Great way to put it. Data is important for understanding wider issues in the classroom, but we should remember to focus on individual students as well.
Q1: Teaching is all about building relationships. Our relationships in the classroom determine how comfortable students feel in asking questions and learning to their fullest potential. Teaching isn't just about relationships with students, but with the community.

@AJFHall I would use social media in the classroom to make it easier for students to share ideas with each other from home in a professional space. #eci201
@AJFHall A2: Yes, I would have a separate account because there may be people or things I follow that are appropriate for my personal life, but that may be inappropriate for a classroom. #eci201
@AJFHall A1: I have seen social media used in the classroom as a way to make sure students can contact each other. It seems pretty effective at letting students voice their concerns to each other as well. #eci201
