While not widespread, some fields that have been sitting at full maturity with recent rains are starting to show seed decay. Especially important for any soybeans being harvested for seed production as germination quality can be an issue.

Before entering a grain bin:
✅ Ask if the job can wait until the bin is empty.
✅ Lock out and tag out equipment.
✅ Test the air for toxic gases.
✅ Wear a safety harness.
✅ Never enter alone.

Long days, big equipment and busy roads make harvest one of the most demanding times of the year.
A few reminders:
• Slow down and share the road. Make sure lights and signals are working, and trailer large combine headers when traveling between fields.
• Stay alert. Put the phone away and avoid distractions.
• Manage fatigue. Take breaks and recognize when you’re too tired to safely operate equipment.
• Respect the equipment. Shut machinery down completely before clearing plugs or performing maintenance.
• Prevent fires. Keep equipment free of crop debris and carry a working fire extinguisher.
• Be prepared. Use proper recovery equipment when equipment gets stuck.
