to do something kind and make my evening a little better.
I stood there holding my emergency supplies and honestly felt a little emotional.
The bar is so low that a man showing basic thoughtfulness can feel genuinely shocking.
The ice cream was excellent.
So was the gesture.
Needless to say, I agreed to a second date.
We need more Margo’s in Scottish politics. Sadly we have many below average individuals with ‘what is in it for me?’ attitude. More and more politician loose their voice just to go along the party line and not loose their seats. WE DESERVE BETTER
Three of the UK’s nations have elected pro-independence parties. The fourth is drifting towards English nationalism under Reform.
These islands are constitutionally broken. Yet the UK government still acts like it’s 1997.
The SNP share of the vote on Thursday was 5% higher than Starmer achieved in the UK 2024 General Election.
Yet the media all tell you Starmer had a massive all conquering landslide, but the SNP won by a fluke of the voting system.
I must confess to having underestimated Keir Starmer. Thumped in Thursday’s elections, this weekend he turns to Gordon Brown and Harriet Harman to rejuvenate his government with young, fresh blood. A stroke of pure genius. I foresee a second Starmer landslide come the next general election. Respect, sir.
I resigned from OpenAI. I care deeply about the Robotics team and the work we built together. This wasn’t an easy call. AI has an important role in national security. But surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomy without human authorization are lines that deserved more deliberation than they got. This was about principle, not people. I have deep respect for Sam and the team, and I’m proud of what we built together.
The way governments want to use AI for total surveillance is terrifying. If you haven’t seen the Person of Interest, you should. It’s sobering for anyone who believes AI is to keep everyone safe.
The news cycle is moving so fast, im not sure today’s story of monumental proportions is getting enough attention. The standoff between the AI giant Anthropic and the US Pentagon just went public. Here’s a recap:
• Pentagon revealed they used Anthropic’s Claude to help capture Maduro in Venezuela.
• Emboldened by their success the US government came back demanding unrestricted access to Claude. For mass surveillance and autonomous kill decisions that don’t require human oversight. Please read that again.
• Anthropic said no.
• The Trump administration didn’t take it well. Trump made a post, labeled Anthropic ‘woke’ and blacklisted them from all federal contracts.
• Didn’t take long for Sam Altman with OpenAI to see the opening and take it. Within hours, ChatGPT became the Pentagon’s preferred AI under ‘friendlier’ terms.
• Within a day Anthropic became the most downloaded app on the App Store. The attached video shows the sidewalk in front of their SF office.
This shouldnt feel so shocking, but a US corporation just chose integrity over a $200M government contract and it feels revolutionary. Maybe because we’re so desensitized to corruption that ethical stances feels radical.
While we watch the war between Iran and Israel, this story reveals who controls the weapons. The question we were all dreading just became very, very real: who controls AI, governments and their military or the companies building it?
Let’s watch this story closely, it’s going to shape a lot of what comes next.
@neilcgray@theSNP Come on, let’s be honest. Lies! Most of the time it’s hard to get appointments with gps. When you do, many of them feel superficial and ‘let’s get you out of here fast’.
But sometimes things are better and appointments go well.
And 50 weeks of gynaecology waiting lists ridiculous
