TODAY: 2,000 NEU members across 32 non-academised sixth form colleges in England are striking over pay disparities. Further strikes are planned for 4 & 13 December. Teachers demand an above-inflation pay award.
"The exceptionally strong turnout for the strike action last Thursday should have been a wake-up call to government that our members will not back down on this issue." #PayUp24

Teachers got their pay rise of 5.5 today. As they should. I’ve had a pay freeze for 8 years. I am happy for me. But not happy for TAs in school. When I daily see the lengths they go to, I rage for them. They deserve a HUGE pay rise. Particularly those who 1:1 children.
On @BBCNews this morning.
The funding element to the teacher pay award is vitally important.
Our children deserve SEND support, smaller class sizes, school trips, support staff. As well as concrete steps taken to end the teacher recruitment crisis.
“If Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves were not to implement a 5.5 per cent pay award, that would be a step that even the last Tory government didn’t take and we would be on a very poor direction of travel straight away.”
@DanielKebedeNEU on Radio 5 Live this morning.
UK News Shows are failing to point out teachers’ pay is whopping 9% lower in real terms than 2010 with cuts even larger for more experienced workers in the profession
Teachers are taking on 2nd jobs & using food banks
If you think that’s important RT

Many in the education sector agree that the first task both the education team and the treasury will need to address is teacher pay

These awful teacher recruitment (and for the matter, retention) figures are the biggest threat to education and a result of 14 years of neglect, contempt and denigration shown to the profession by successive Conservative governments.
Filling in for @matilda__martin today: The latest teacher workforce data has been released - and shows a 20% surge in teacher vacancies since last year. Let's take a look at everything the data tells us🧵

"Our members are prepared to take further industrial action to ensure teachers and our schools get the fair deal they deserve, but only if you give them no choice. I am calling on you to intervene urgently to ensure that teachers in England receive a fully funded above-inflation pay rise for 2024/25, and that you also ensure there is further funding to provide improved levels of staffing." #InvestInEducation

Well done to @NEULondon members at Balham and Eastwood nursery schools, on strike this week to protect their vital services from devastating cuts. #SaveMNS#Solidarity
This is a victory for the @NEULondon members whose petition called for Paul Marshall to be removed as a trustee of Ark.
Hate has no place in our schools.
