Apparently, in Massachusetts, there is no shortage of people willing to find a sympathetic explanation for almost anything, and someone else to blame. Kill your boyfriend in a reverse drunk-driving incident? There’s a narrative, and someone else to blame. Pull a gun on a cop? There’s a narrative, and someone else to blame. Take the lives of three children? There’s a narrative, and someone else to blame. Dismember your wife? A content creator will invent a spy narrative for that too.

At some point, maybe we should stop asking what story makes the conduct easier to accept and start asking what the evidence actually shows, and who is actually responsible.
