Stakeholders from Uganda Tobacco Services Ltd and the Ministry of Water and Environment Budongo System Range team held discussions on strengthening forest conservation and sustainability in tobacco-growing areas near forest reserves.
Key resolutions included joint community sensitization on tree planting, encouraging farmers to plant at least 10 trees each, supporting forest enrichment planting, regulating firewood access, and strengthening forest boundary management through field staff guidance.

Nonve CFR remains a gazetted forest. Conservation efforts are ongoing, with restoration programs actively working to conserve its biodiversity& eco value. Any change to the status of Nonve CFR must follow the requirements of the National Forestry and Tree Planting Act, Cap 160.
Strengthening Forest Governance in Timu CFR.
Together with the ACODE team, we engaged the Timu Environment Conservation CFM Group in Kaabong. Timu CFR is home to the Ik indigenous community, with the entire Timu Sub-county located within the forest reserve.

@kabuniversity The Ag. ED @min_waterUg / @NFAUG handed over the site with Echuya CFR to Kabale University. A license had been signeded earlier which will guide research and other forestry activities in the forest.
We have signed an MOU with the National Forest Authority @NFAUG today. Kabale University is allocated some land within Echuya Forest so that it may establish a research center there. This will enhance hands-on training and skill development. This site will benefit the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, the Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management, and other academic units.
The EU is funding a new conservation project in the transboundary Kidepo–Turkana landscape shared by Uganda & Kenya. The initiative, promoted by the Uganda Conservation Foundation (UCF), aims to strengthen new & existing community conservancies located near protected areas & CFRs
The area is known for its rich biodiversity and importance to local livelihoods.
Support will include one sector vehicle and two motorcycles to improve patrols, field operations, and community engagement, contributing to forest restoration and climate resilience.
