Good morning everyone! One of the bills addressing state employe compensation is going up *today* so we're asking all members of the community to sign our petition: Fund all COLAs equally! No program cuts or fee hikes!
But the legislators can fix this, and the governor supports it. Fund COLAs at 80%. We need your help though! If you're part of the community (staff, alum, student, faculty, parent, concerned citizen) sign the petition: https://t.co/BHxEoIMeAT
Now that we caught our breath...thanks to everyone who supported a major cost of living adjustment for NSHE faculty! This does not solve all of our problems, but it is a step in the right direction.
We appreciate everyone who supported this effort, first and foremost our colleagues who discussed, advocated, called, and gave testimony. We are stronger together! We need all of you in the NFA so we can push for more positive change!
Public comment on COLA and Chancellor was scheduled for about 5 minutes….it took an hour. Strong commentary from faculty including many of our members.
When our university is hiring, faculty are only allowed to consider things relevant to the job description (like teaching and research). Why don’t the @NevadaRegents follow the same rules?
Watching the @NSHE forums for Chancellor candidates. Bryant Group has spouses introduce candidates. Bias towards heteronormative families or that spouse (and having one in particular way) is marker of success or credibility. Cringe.
Amazing how the 'mandatory freezes' always seem to exempt making people Super Duper Vice Provost of New Initiatives or launching a new national search for an external Vice President of Stuff.
As of Thursday, June 15, Gov. Joe Lombardo has vetoed 32 bills and 170 are awaiting his decision.
But more than 400 have been signed into law. Our team broke down some of the high-profile measures he approved in recent days here: https://t.co/SuVfdhEWX6
The latest version of the Ohio Senate's state budget bill would prohibit student members of the Ohio State University Board of Trustees from having voting rights or being able to attend executive sessions.
When management holds or cuts positions it's always blamed on 'merit' or 'COLA' but never seems to be blamed on 'multiple new managerial positions' or 'new construction vanity project' 🧐
Today President Sandoval sent an email to campus saying that management is conducting an 'analysis' to determine how COLAs will be paid. NFA's position is clear: fund the COLAs. Consult faculty on any cuts. Protect the lowest paid workers, cut from the top (management).
We don't know exactly how COLAs are going to be enacted. We do know that if we all had collective bargaining agreements, we'd have more say in how decisions get made at work.
Alright folks, we know Saturday night, let alone Graduation Saturday (congrats grads!) isn't the time you're reading long tweet threads, but we need you for this one! So we're going to do it in 3 tweets!
@OurTownReno@JosephMLombardo Bit of a sine die whiplash and still sorting what happened in those final hours (and vetoes, which can roll out slowly). Raises *were* included in the state worker pay bill which was signed by the governor. That was funding NSHE worker raises at 66%.
