Forget the Brodeur take (although incredibly incorrect)
Saying that goalies are the most overrated player on the ice is up there with the worst hockey take
I’ll even go as far as saying the goalie in the NHL is the most important position in the four US major sports
Brodeur played behind one of the best defenses in NHL history, during an era where goalies could wear mattresses on their legs and teams could trap.
Goalies are flat-out the most overrated players on the ice in general. And amongst them nobody was more overrated by Brodeur. Good? Yes. Top 3 goalie of his own era? Not even close.
Hasek, Roy, Belfour, Nabokov, Thomas, Miller, Lundqvist, Richter were all better.

The whole 82-0 phenomenon reinforces that whole bit about how the only thing a bunch of dudes need in order to have a good time is to sit around announcing the names of a bunch of old athletes.
