Shadows of the Golden Cat
Chapter 8: Neon lights
After the whirlwind events of the past weeks, Joon had managed to carve out a brief respite, a momentary pause in the relentless pace of his new life. It was this sliver of time that he seized upon, deciding to embark on an impromptu journey back to Seoul. This wasn’t a leisure trip; it was a mission deeply personal, fueled by desperation and hope.
The bustling streets of Seoul felt both familiar and foreign to Joon. The city's skyscrapers were silhouetted against the evening sky, and the air was filled with the aroma of street food. But Joon wasn't here for nostalgia; he was on a quest to unearth the truth about his missing friend, Min-Jae.
Despite his discreet inquiries and covert meetings, the information he gathered was frustratingly scant. Whispers and rumors all pointed towards the Golden Cat's involvement, but nothing concrete.
The underground world of Seoul was a labyrinth of secrets and half-truths. Joon navigated it with the practiced ease of someone who had once been deeply entrenched in its operations. He tapped into old contacts, revisiting dimly lit tea houses and tech havens tucked away behind nondescript doors. These places, often concealed from the untrained eye, were the nerve centers of information. But as Joon moved from one contact to the next, from one whispered conversation to another, he was met with a mix of caution, fear, and evasion. It was as if a dark cloud, an unsaid warning, hung over the mention of the Golden Cat. This only fueled Joon’s determination. He needed to piece together this jigsaw, to connect the scattered fragments of stories he was hearing. But every lead seemed to dissipate just as he thought he was getting closer to the truth. And then there was the recurring whisper – the Golden Cat was not just involved, he was the puppet master.
Desperation bubbled within Joon. He couldn't, wouldn't let this go. The Golden Cat had been a guide, and to think he might be behind such treachery was maddening.
With a new resolve, Joon boarded the next flight back to New York. His plan was clear; he would infiltrate the only known office of the Golden Cat, gather evidence, and confront the man he once admired.
The office was a labyrinthine sprawl of opulence and shadows. The walls, adorned with dark wood panels and intricate carvings, exuded an air of power. Joon noticed that between the ornate tapestries were state-of-the-art surveillance cameras, their unblinking eyes sweeping the corridors. Relying on his extensive knowledge of electronic systems, Joon employed a series of jammers, momentarily blinding the eyes that sought to observe him.
Moving stealthily, he followed the blueprints he had memorized, maneuvering through secret passages and hidden doors. The weight of the recording devices in his pocket felt reassuring, a symbol of his intent. He arrived at the Golden Cat's personal office, an ostentatious room replete with art, and an enormous desk made of mahogany. With practiced ease, Joon began to position the devices in strategic locations, ensuring they would capture every word spoken in this room. As he was about to place the last one, an all too familiar voice, dripping with a mix of amusement and menace, shattered the pressing quiet.
"I admire your tenacity, Joon," it purred.
Whirling around, Joon's eyes widened in shock. The Golden Cat stood there, a shadowy figure, flanked by Ghost, White Eyes, and the ever-mysterious Shadow.
Joon's heart raced. They knew. They had known all along.
Without a word, two guards seized Joon, guiding him down another hallway and thrusting him into a cell. The clang of the door echoed ominously, but another sound made Joon freeze: the familiar voice of his long-lost friend.
Smirking, his friend said from outside the cell, "Didn't expect this reunion, did you?" Then he continued, “Did you really think that was the Golden Cat’s office?”
Joon's mind reeled. This was a setup. A game. A test.

Chapter 4: Echoes in the System
The Golden Cat's assignments for Joon were varied and frequent, each a piece of the vast puzzle that was his empire. But the latest task was different — it had a sharpness to it, a specificity that spoke of personal stakes. They were no longer skirting the peripheries of digital shadows; they were diving into the heart of it.
"There's a tech mogul," the Golden Cat's briefing was succinct, his voice a calm ripple across the storm Joon sensed brewing beneath, "He's been a... thorn for society. His company's new protocol threatens to upset certain... balances. It needs to be dealt with."
"Which is the company?" Joon asked as he opened a notebook. “Sonder Tech,” the Golden Cat responded, in a nonchalant tone. “Sonder Tech, that Sonder Tech?” Joon became overwhelmed just thinking about the size of the challenge that was coming his way. “Yes, Sonder Tech. The company that our society has given its life to,” the Golden Cat responded as he stood up and began to walk away.
The mission was clear: breach the firewalls, navigate the neon-lit corridors of their defenses, and plant a Trojan Horse that would siphon information and funds over time, unnoticed and unstoppable. But this was no ordinary hack — it was a duel, a dance on the razor's edge of cyber warfare.
His partner in this digital heist was Code, a hacker whose reputation was near mythical. They'd never met in person until this moment, in a dimly lit room, walls peppered with screens, and a singular terminal awaiting their command. Code was an enigma, eyes alight with a fervor that Joon recognized — the thrill of the chase, the hunger for the hack.
"You ready, Silver?"
"Born ready," Joon replied, the familiar rush of anticipation humming in his veins.
Their fingers danced, keystrokes were their language, and the screens flickered with the rapid-fire assault of their hacking tools. Firewalls were formidable, multi-layered entities, learning and adapting. They were the dragons of the digital kingdom, and Joon and Code were the dragon slayers.
But this dragon was unlike any they'd encountered. It learned, adapted, counterattacked, an AI of considerable sophistication. For every layer they peeled back, two more seemed to take its place. The room's temperature rose with the heat of their battle, the air thick with electricity and sweat.
"We need to sync our attacks," Code said, a hint of exhilaration seeping through the modulation. "On my mark...now!"
Their commands merged into a digital spear, thrusting through the defenses with precision. The firewall wavered, and for a moment, the dragon was vulnerable, wounded. They pressed on, codes weaving and clashing in a deadly ballet.
And then, breach.
They were in, digital shadows slipping through the vault's cracks. But victory was short-lived, as alarms blared — not in their hideout, but in the virtual world, their intrusion detected.
"No time for the Trojan," Code announced, plans shifting in real-time. "We grab what we can and get out. Going for the financials."
Joon nodded, focusing on the other part of their mission. Information was power, and the Golden Cat thrived on power. His fingers flew, copying files, correspondence, anything.
Their escape was a cacophony of alerts and encroaching security protocols. They were the foxes in the digital henhouse, and the hounds were baying for blood. With each second, their discovery, their unmasking, seemed inevitable. The tension was a noose, tightening with every passing second.
"Got it!" Code's triumphant yell was a crack of lightning in the charged atmosphere.
"Retracting in three...two...one..." Joon counted down, and as one, they severed the connection, leaving behind digital echoes and scrambling foes.

My obsession led me to explore Ordinals collections early, BRC-20, ORC-20, the rarity system of Ordinals, the Bitcoin Name System.
I shared everything I learnt. I’ll keep sharing every I learn.
While you’re searching for BRC-20 tokens we’re here building one to support an art ecosystem. Really exciting.
The best part: all the tokens are going to be given for free. These tokens are going to be used to buy 1/1 art to be inscribed in the Bitcoin network as Ordinals.
Bitcoin Ordinals is the best thing to happen to #Bitcoin. Not because it’s giving miners more income. Not because it’s bringing thousands of new users to the network.
Because it’s fun. And fun brings creativity, ideas and a renewed sense of building.
