Yesterday we did our first BTO CES (constant effort survey) session of the season at Keyhaven catching 37 birds of 12 species.
Highlight for me was catching a regular Whitethroat, first ringed in 2018 and recorded on site almost every year since.
Tonight marked a full 12 months of dazzling at our East Renfrewshire farmland site. The session ended with 3 Woodcock, 3 Skylark and a retrap Jack.
Our 12 month wader total finished on 113 birds ringed. Main ones being Woodcock (56), Jacks (31 + 14 RT) and 21 Common Snipe
@Belvide_Ringers@_BTO@WestMidBirdClub Nice! I believe a couple of Blackcaps ringed in this part of the world (Wilts and Dorset) have turned up in Saint-Froult in the past too.
Nice little recovery report just in: A Lesser Redpoll ringed at Keyhaven as a 3M on 4th November 2020 caught again at Llangorse Lake, Powys (179km away) on 19th November 2022. @LymKeyRanger
2 great recovery records today: 2nd Siskin colour ringed May turned up same garden in Peebles as 1st one. Common Tern chick CRed last yr seen in SENEGAL April 2022!
Last CES of 2022 rather quiet (birds) and grey (weather) but team's spirits raised by a smart Lesser Whitethroat and a 3M Sparrowhawk @LymKeyRanger Photo credit: @phantomofforest
You'll have to take my word for it, but this was one of 6 Hawfinches at Netley Heath today. Also in attendance: 2 Siskins and several Marsh Tits. @SurreyBirdNews
Great to see more juv Sedge & Reed Warblers in the nets, along with Linnet. Yet to persuade large flocks of Goldfinch feeding on thistle nearby to join them @LymKeyRanger
