Today, with huge thanks to Ealing Hospital, we planted a tree - the UK’s only memorial to NHS staff who have died by suicide. May they rest in peace, and may we redouble our efforts to stop it happening ever in the future. 3/3
Plant dyes - all the colours achievable from leaf, flower and root within around a five mile radius. The red hot poker root was a gift from a friend on Skye but that’s only several miles across the water…
You can see why Russia wants Ukraine. I’ve never seen a more productive agricultural landscape. The endless seas of sunflowers are a constant reminder of how much Ukraine feeds the world.
@HerveyBrookes Agreed Paul ❤️ loved the blue planting which is used only lightly (from what I can see) the distance from the vast block of the blue colour wall is perfect and genius . 💙
The worst example I've come across (perhaps the worst NGO in the UK, in terms of the gulf between mission and practice) is @RSPCA_official. Far from confronting animal farming, it provides cover for it through its grossly inadequate RSPCA Assured scheme.
The #kakapo population has rocketed to 211, up from 197 last month. As this year’s chicks become juveniles at 150 days old, they’re added to the official population count. Waa-A2-2022 is one of the latest to hit the milestone. #kakapo2022#conservation#parrots
Enjoying this Art Nouveau winding staircase decorated with metal flowers and vines, designed by architect Ede Magyar, at Reök Palace in Szeged, Hungary (1907)
The colour Paris Green dominated fashionable #Victorian life, being used in society dresses, wallpaper, paint, toys & even as a dye for confectionery. Unfortunately the recipe contained large amounts of arsenic & death followed wherever the colour went. #FaustianFriday
I remember a certain “celebrity”judge at the time carking on about how plant design shouldn’t be like flower arranging. People plant what you damn well like, plant what’s pretty to you, clash colours live out your wildest vase life, ignore sniffy rules. #RHSMalvern#gardening
It’s been a while since my RHS medal at Malvern. The show garden was exciting but a stress fest. I would do many things differently but I am so glad to have had this experience. #gardeningtips#GardeningTwitter#RHSMalvern
