The Saint Paul Police Department has been using unmanned aircraft systems, or drones, since 2023. This technology provides officers with real-time information from above an active scene.
Now in 2026, we’re expanding our drone program to help all first responders. Our team of trained drone pilots can now provide a live thermal view above a fire – allowing the @StPaulFireDept to identify hot spots and develop the best plan of action.
There are now two drone options:
• A Saint Paul Police officer, who is also a trained and authorized drone pilot, can respond and launch a drone at the scene.
• Or we can deploy one of our three new docked drones.
Docked drones are remotely piloted, can be on scene in less than 3 minutes, and being to relay real-time information to responding officers or firefighters before they even arrive.
These tools are improving public safety, reducing response times, and leading to better-informed decisions and better outcomes for everyone in the City of Saint Paul.

I’ve referred these allegations to DOJ’s new Fraud Division for criminal investigation. Minnesota state officials are not above the law, and if they facilitated fraud, lied under oath about what they knew, or harassed and intimated whistleblowers, they must face justice.
