Investment in active travel is welcome – Swansea’s new riverside path shows ambition.

A safe route like #MissingLink would unlock everyday journeys for entire communities – not just leisure routes along existing corridors.
@YoulePost@SwanseaCouncil
Residents between Gowerton and Penclawdd are still waiting for a safe route they can actually use every day.

Let’s invest where it makes the biggest difference. #MissingLink@YoulePost@SwanseaCouncil
The Gowerton–Penclawdd #missinglink is officially in @SwanseaCouncil plans.
But it’s still just a proposal—with no delivery date.
Other schemes are progressing year by year.
Without a published timeline, it’s impossible to know:
whether its a real priority.
#activetravel
£8m.
1 mile of cycle path.
Along a river that already has routes. https://t.co/996z9R3xyk
Still no safe link between Gowerton and Penclawdd.
This is why #MissingLink matters @YoulePost
@SwanseaCouncil AT approach feels reactive rather than strategic.
Projects depend on:
• annual funding bids
• schemes moving in and out of development
• shifting priorities
If the vision exists—why not publish the roadmap?
#activetravel#Swansea#walkingwheelingcycling
Millions are being invested in active travel across @SwanseaCouncil
But try answering a simple question:
👉 What will the network look like in 5 or 10 years?
Current plans list projects, but don’t set out when key links will be delivered—or in what order.
#walkingwheelingcycling
Swansea is about to spend £8 million on just ONE mile of cycle path along the River Tawe – built in phases to “open up” the riverfront
https://t.co/996z9R2ZIM
Investment is going into already-served corridors while real gaps like the #MissingLink remain ignored.
@swanseabaynews
Over £685k initially, then another ~£685k reallocated—well over £1M spent on the Clyne Valley path.
It’s smoother and wider (3m), yes—but it was already usable. The #missinglink, which could transform connectivity, remains unfinished. Currently it is less than 1m wide!
Current @SwanseaCouncil AT projects list, one thing stands out: There’s no clear long-term timeline.
When will the #MissingLink be delivered? Without a published timeline, how can the public understand what the future network will look like? #walkingwheelingcycling
🚶♂️🚴♀️“Accessible nature matters.” Research shows that everyday contact with natural spaces improves wellbeing — but many can’t enjoy it safely without good walking or cycling routes. (https://t.co/LYlw6VYfhm)
That’s why completing the #missinglink is so important.
