Food security goes beyond growing crops to preserving them, adding value, and reducing waste.
Yet across Nigeria, post-harvest losses continue to limit the full potential of our agricultural produce.
Innovations, such as the development of a process plant for plantain flour, are transforming this reality by turning a highly perishable crop into a stable, market-ready product, extending shelf life, boosting income opportunities, and strengthening the food value chain.
In 2022, Sessan Ayodeji and Emmanuel Olatomilola were recognized with The Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation for this impactful breakthrough, highlighting how technology and ingenuity can reshape local industries.
Today, we look back and celebrate innovations that not only feed nations but also create sustainable pathways for economic growth and food security
