We understand Valencia Basket’s frustration following their defeat in Game 2 of the EuroLeague Playoffs.
However, an unfavorable result for their team cannot justify for unacceptable incidents such as:

•⁠ ⁠The throwing of objects towards our bench during the game.

•⁠ ⁠Interventions by Valencia Basket’s security personnel towards players of Panathinaikos BC AKTOR during the game, in an attempt to prevent them from standing up and celebrating their team’s baskets from the bench. This is unprecedented and has never occurred in any arena worldwide.

•⁠ Unprovoked attacks by players and officials of Valencia Basket against our athletes and staff members after the final buzzer, culminating in the aggressive act of Isaac Nogués towards Kendrick Nunn. The same “athlete” subsequently also attacked our assistant coach, Vasilis Simtsak, who had simply approached to greet Panathinaikos supporters.

•⁠ ⁠ The fact that security personnel at Valencia Basket’s arena, without any justification, decided to remove our team officials from the Roig Arena premises after the conclusion of the game.

•⁠ ⁠The overall unacceptable conduct of security staff towards all officials of Panathinaikos BC AKTOR, going as far as to push them and obstruct them from performing their duties, even during the game.

•⁠ ⁠The “harassment tactics” employed by the Spanish club’s security personnel towards Panathinaikos’ supporters in both Game 1 and Game 2 of the series.

•⁠ ⁠The decision of the Spanish club’s management to call police forces to the locker rooms in an attempt to unlawfully detain Mr. Dimitris Giannakopoulos, allegedly for saying to the referees, as also recorded in the official game report: “Call the foul! Call the foul.”

Panathinaikos is undeniably one of the most historic clubs in Europe, with vast experience from countless away games.

Yesterday in Valencia, however, the team experienced the worst level of hospitality and conduct ever encountered in a European arena.
It is evident that all of the above incidents have already been formally reported to the EuroLeague.

While we fully understand the anger these events have caused among our fans, we call on them this Wednesday (6/5) to do what they do better than anyone else: support the team with their voice alone, allowing the coach and players of Panathinaikos BC AKTOR to provide the appropriate response on the court.
