A huge thank you to St John Ambulance for visiting NHGS and delivering this important training, teaching our students how to perform CPR and giving them the confidence to take action when it matters most.

👏 Congratulations to Ella! 👏
We’re delighted that Y8 student, Ella, has won the Best Character Award in the Historical Association’s Write Your Own Historical Fiction competition 2026.

[North Halifax Grammar School @NHGS]

Her story, Two Girls, Two Sides, Two Lives, One War, is set during the English Civil War and follows two girls from opposing sides of the conflict. The judges praised Ella’s ability to bring her characters to life, saying they “instantly leap off the page”. Well done, Ella🌟

👏 Thank you to everyone who has taken part. We hope everyone takes one positive action for their own or someone else’s well-being.

Scholarship, Fellowship and Leadership in action.

Tomorrow (10 October) is #WorldMentalHealthDay.
At NHGS, student well-being is central. This week, students have been sharing practical ways to support positive mental health, from exercise and time in nature to kindness and noticing life’s little positives.

[North Halifax Grammar School @NHGS]

As part of our Community Calendar, students have been researching and presenting top tips to help their peers navigate life and support others.

A big thank you to our Y7 parents & carers who joined us for our Welcome Event! We loved sharing more about life at NHGS and our fantastic PA. 👏 Congratulations to Form 7.5’s parents, our quiz champions! Their form wins a celebration breakfast next week, courtesy of the PA! 🎉

There’s so much more to NHGS beyond the classroom! This week, our sixth formers have been sharing their experiences of music, sport, chess, science, Dungeons & Dragons, Poetry by Heart, debating, Ski Club, Art Club & more.

We hope it inspires students to try something new! 🌟

Creative Writing Club had a brilliant time this lunchtime, working on world-building and devising places of their own design. ✍️

Just one of the many lunchtime clubs at NHGS giving students the chance to explore their interests, develop their talents and try something different

[North Halifax Grammar School @NHGS]

Great to see Ella, who helps Mr Manby & Dr Dickinson run Creative Writing Club, supporting younger students.

It’s just one example of the many opportunities our sixth formers have to demonstrate and develop their leadership skills.

Scholarship. Fellowship. Leadership.
