18 y/o woman presents to her PCP with abdominal pain and malaise. She is tremulous on examination, and a spot urinalysis reveals high specific gravity. She is empirically prescribed Cipro and advised to increase her fluids
Our patient was was admitted to the ICU with a diagnosis of probable
severe AH and sepsis. Steroids were
deferred. Owing to recent
drinking, she was not considered for
transfer to a liver transplant center. Palliative care was consulted, and she died on hospital day 7.
