@unisouthampton@charlot_summers @VCMarkESmith Congratulations @charlot_summers ! It’s been a pleasure working with you over the years. Southampton’s gain is undoubtedly Cambridge’s loss. I hope our paths cross again, but until then all the best wishes and luck in your new role.
So proud of the @Selwyn1882 students. We’re a college with some of the highest state school numbers in Cambridge (80%) and a wide range of backgrounds. It’s proof that diversity and higher academic achievement actually go together. @thetimes
The PM is right about the risk to our country of becoming an island of strangers- but it’s not (just) due to immigration. It’s the rise of social media, decline in community institutions, reduced volunteering, the collapse of pubs, churches and more. Community needs rebuilding
NEW: Is NHS hospital productivity starting to rebound?
Over the last few years, @BenZaranko and I have written and talked a lot about the NHS productivity problem. In a new @TheIFS comment (with new colleague Olly Harvey-Rich) we look at productivity over the last year.

So, today is the last day of my 12 month secondment to @EKHUFT as CFO.
It’s been a hugely rewarding year working with NHS leadership teams across the patch who are determined to improve the health of the population of East Kent.

@EKHUFT@NHSKentMedway@NHSEngland Finally, congratulations and good luck to Angela van der Lem, the new CFO at EKHUFT. Angela is a fantastic appointment whose experience as a senior finance leader in the civil service will be invaluable over the coming years. I wish her and the team all the best for the future!
@EKHUFT@NHSKentMedway@NHSEngland All of these statistics represent real improvements to patients lives and outcomes. None of them would have been possible without the delivery of the highest productivity/efficiency programme in the trust’s history, which has also reduced the deficit at EKHUFT by 25%.
@EKHUFT@NHSKentMedway@NHSEngland So a lot done, but it is also true that there remains a lot still to do. The EKHUFT team understand that, and their determination, resilience and passion for the population of East Kent will, I know, continue the positive progress made into the future.
@EKHUFT@NHSKentMedway@NHSEngland - In Feb 2024 55.6% of the patients with cancer began their treatment at EKHUFT within 62 days, in Sept that had increased to 74.7%;
- In Feb 2024 45.1% of patients who arrived at one of our A&E’s or minor injury units were seen within 4 hours, in Sept that percentage was 56.5%;
We’re delighted that today Health Secretary @wesstreeting has announced @NHSEngland will take responsibility for GP data in England, paving the way for coded data to be shared with consented cohorts like UK Biobank.
