President Nandi-Ndaitwah noted that she had invited the delegation through NIDA to brief the nation on the initiative, which she had previously referenced in her 2026 State of the Nation Address.
She expressed her enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its potential to enhance food security and diversify the fishing industry for the benefit of the country.
On his part, Mr. Kaukuetu emphasised that the project aligns with Namibia’s developmental objectives, particularly in advancing industry diversification, strengthening the blue economy, stimulating economic growth, and creating employment opportunities.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has thrown her weight behind plans to establish Namibia’s first large-scale Atlantic salmon industry following a State House meeting with the Namibia Industrial Development Agency (NIDA) and the Namibian Atlantic Salmon Holding.
The engagement outlined a proposed offshore salmon farming project in Lüderitz, developed with the African Aquaculture Company, aimed at building an integrated value chain from farming and local smolt production to processing and export.
Nandi-Ndaitwah highlighted the project as a key opportunity to advance industrialisation and better use Namibia’s marine resources, underscoring NIDA’s role in driving national development.
The initiative could generate up to 35,000 jobs at full scale and unlock investment opportunities across the value chain, with government expected to take an equity stake through NIDA to ensure local participation and policy alignment.
