We are urging all schools in Northern Ireland to emotionally regulate before we educate when reopening this week. It is important to prioritise psychological recovery of pupils AND staff. We also want to caution Educational Psychologists on the over identification of SEN.
All schools in NI reopen tomorrow, now more than ever we have to emotionally regulate before we educate. Not only for psychological recovery due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but now also due to the increased violence across NI. Psychological wellbeing 1st, academics 2nd.
Well done to Educational Psychologists 👏 You have not stopped working through the pandemic & have found new and creative ways to progress cases so children can still get support. You have also been providing psychological support to schools & staff 🙌

In my work I’ve been privileged to walk alongside many mothers grieving for a beloved child. They shared part of their devastating journey and I held their pain for a while. I’m thinking of them all today and holding them in my heart once again. #LoveNeverDies. @NIDCP

Why I have to point this out again is beyond me. Homophobia is not ok.
