For anyone thinking about a swap between Hischier and Larkin —
1. Hischier is a significantly better player. Not particularly close, and he’s several years younger.
2. There’s no indication a contract won’t get done, with all early signs pointing to an extension.

I have multiple notes out on the Nemec rumor.
I've confirmed that at least part of it is untrue. Will disclose more when I have more.
For now...

I can confirm Sunny Mehta has been in contact with Simon Nemec and the agent, unlike what the rumor suggests.
Here's what we know so far.

I’ve said it before and I’ll continue to say it over and over and over again.
Brady Tkachuk is an excellent hockey player and the #NJDevils should be all over it *if* he is available at any point. He’s also valued for entirely the wrong reasons and, well, isn’t out there yet.
Nico Hischier in 5 Games vs. Carolina in Last Year’s Postseason -
5 games, 4 goals
Bad Captain, Soft, Loser
Brady Tkachuk in 3 Games vs Carolina in This Year’s postseason -
3 Games, 0 goals, 1 fight he got beat up in
Leader, Culture Setter, Winner
Shits hilarious
I think it's perfectly fine to discuss imperfections in Nico Hischier's game.
Thinking there are attainable, better alternatives is comical.
Have a good one.
The fact this doesn’t exist anymore because of digital gambling ads is sickening.
The commentators talk about odds, the boards have ads, the jerseys and helmets have ads. It’s already everywhere.
Leave the game alone.
You don’t need more money.
Mehta will be the hockey operations decision maker for the Devils. No immediate decisions on head coach Sheldon Keefe or any other staff. He will take time to evaluate. Media conference for introduction on Tuesday.
Even if you’re not emotionally attached to the players like myself, Nico Hischier should simply just be extended imo.
All you’re doing is creating a hole at 2C that will not be filled with a player of his caliber.

I hate all the Nico discourse on the app lately. Not surprising, it was Jack discourse pre Olympics and I guess everyone found a new player to blame
I’ll be honest, I’m extremely bias. I’ve been open in saying that Nico is my favorite player on the team currently. I saw him get drafted live in Chicago, he’s the same age as me.. was there for his debut, watched him play over 600 games and become captain
Like I won’t even lie.. I’m 100% emotionally attached to him as a player, but isn’t that the point in sports? We dream of having homegrown guys who we draft and they go on to have long careers in NJ. Guys who will go on to become Devils legends and win cups with the team
I know fans are at the point where they are open to anything to succeed, and I totally respect that. But for me, Nico (and Jack) are special, and are 2 guys you keep at all costs. I promise if this team is going anywhere, they are the ones who will be leading it to success. The team around them NEEDS to improve. The leaders on this team are easy to blame but we need to think deeper than that
I think when a new GM comes in this summer, his first priority will be extending Nico long term. This is a guy we should aim to keep in NJ forever. And knowing his character, I’d imagine it won’t be an insane $$ number that NJ will have to hit to keep him. I’m just ready for this to be wrapped up and done honestly
People call Nico the 2C, but he plays the 1C matchups. He's a 100-point center if they take him off the PK and load him up at 5v5.
There are no better options in FA. They're not finding one in the draft. There are no internal options.
A contending team re-signs Nico Hischier.
Could obviously be proven wrong in time but this isn’t super worrying to me. “Let’s wait and see what happens” seems like a perfectly reasonable response getting blown out of proportion.
That said, the #NJDevils should make it a priority to keep him in the org.
the Devils made so many missteps over the last year -- not addressing the scoring depth, extending Markstrom early, whatever the hell unfolded with the their trade deadline, among other things, that this felt inevitable.
